Anyone accepted for the Fall 2008 semester? I just got my acceptance letter!!! Yay!!! :)
hi i was going to apply to st.vincent in march but i was too late because the deadline was in february ..i have taken most of my pre reqs including a&p 1 and 2..i was thinking of applying in june..ive also taken the nln before but didnt score very high on it..does anyone have any suggestions or advice??
Hello,
I was looking into applying to St. Vincent's and am at a dead end. A co-worker of mine (Who happens to be a graduate of SVCMC) had suggested this school to me and when I went to their website I found little to no information. I spoke with someone over the phone to request information about applying for their Spring 2010 semester and she had promised to send me information with no result. I also sent an e-mail but for some reason the e-mail keeps coming back to me telling me that it is not active.
Is there anyway for me to request information or should I just go down to the school and knock on their door? My current schedule offers me little time to do so.
Does anyone have any information about the Application requirements at this school?
I hope that someone will respond, Im in desperate need of information!

Hi Stor05,
I would suggest you go there in person but like you said you don't have the time for that, try calling again, its always better to talk to someone than to communicate through emails. That could go on forever. They require you to take an entrance exam, (NET), they also accept transfer credits. I hope I was of some help to you, good luck!
Thanks Linda for the info.
You wouldn't happen to know if the Staten Island campus and Queens campus have the same application's process?
I mean, If I apply to one campus does that also include the other?
I wrote the SI campus today and got a lengthy reply. They should be sending information via air mail soon. I am more interested in there Queens campus but I have been unable to contact them. The e-mail's come back to me and the number is sending me to voicemail.
I have an degree in biology and am afraid that my GPA was not high enough upon graduation, (I barely graduated with a C average) to be eligible for acceptance.
Does anyone know if there a minimum GPA cut off? And how much do they take that into admissions consideration?
Anytime Stor05, I'm not too sure whether those two campuses have the exact same application process, but from what I've read on here, they both require the NET test. I know that in order to be accepted they look at your GPA, NET score and interview. You might wanna think about repeating some classes to improve your gpa, I did that with A&P, it really makes a difference.
hey linda87
I called st.vincent today and they told me that their entrance exam only consists of math and english...do you know what kind of math and eng it is?? and I already took A&P 1 and 2..but got a C for both ..but scored high on my other classes would i have to take them over or take the challenge test??
Hi KatML,
The math portion consisted of: whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, number system conversions and algebra equation problems. It's pretty basic math, which I didnt find hard and I'm in no way a math pro. As for the reading section, you need to be able to identify the main idea of the passage, inferences and predicting outcomes and so on and also being a fast reader helps. My NET test also included a science portion, only 15 questions, and written expression, which consists of: capitalization, pronouns agreement, punctuation, correct sentence structure and spelling demons. But the overall score only tallied in the math and reading scores. As for your grades, depending on your gpa will determine whether you need to take the classes over again, in my opinion and I'm sure you wont like this, I'd repeat them. I repeated A&P 2 to get a better grade. Your best beat is to talk to someone from the school. Hope I helped!
I dont really mind taking them over again even though it was really hard for me..as long as i get in the program im happy..my gpa is a 3.0..they let u repeat the courses again in st.vincent? and when you took it again was it in st.vincent or in qcc? the math doesnt seem that hard but the reading a little..did it have any hard vocabulary terms of any sort?
Thank you guys for the information.
I have decided to take tonight off and head down to the school tomorrow morning.
I have taken both A&P and passed with a high grade, although most of my lower grades are in subjects unrelated to Nursing like Calculus and Molecular Biology. I'm actually interested in taking the courses over again from scratch. (I graduated almost 4 yeas ago Microbiology.)
I too am wondering if they allow students to repeat classes.
Hopefully I'll receive some sort of information tomorrow.
KatML are you applying to the Queens campus or the SI one?
St. Vincent's School of Nursing was acquired by a company called Education Affiliates. Starting this fall we'll be known as St. Paul's School of Nursing. The NET exam is EASY, if you know your basic math skills and reading comprehension. If you consider yourself a good B or A student, the exam is a cinch. The review book sort of gives you an idea of what's on the exam, but it's not EXACTLY what is tested. For instance in the review book there's no critical thinking section but on the exam there is. Get at least an 80 on that exam and they'll consider you. I can tell you that St. Paul's chooses driven people; most of the people in my class already have college degrees or have a lot of transfer credits. As a student at St. Paul's, anything less than a B and you're out. If you're applying and you got a C in bio, they're going to take more interest in the student with an A or B. It's exhilarating when you finally get that call. The interview is definitely a deciding factor. By the middle of your interview, you'll kind of know whether or not you're in because then your interviewer will ask you about transfer credits and whether you plan to take a class. Those are very good signs that you're in. It's competitive, but once you get in be prepared to study your ass off. I really like the school and my class. Best decision I ever made.

Thanks so much for your response, I feel more at ease knowing that I made a smart choice. I have already sent in my deposit and received a financial aid information packet today. I am so excited to start this Fall..
