Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers School of Nursing - Queens

Anyone accepted for the Fall 2008 semester? I just got my acceptance letter!!! Yay!!! :) :yeah:

Hi,

So I am going to start full time day classes this fall at St. Paul's, I live in Manhattan my commute to the SVCMC location was about 1 hour and 15mins on the MTA train and bus. Now that the location is in lake success, I checked on hop stop and in terms of public transportation it says it will take 2 hours to get to the school. Which is not too bad, Hopstop suggested I take the LIRR to great neck and the N25 bus to 4 Nevada Drive...Anyone know of any other option?

I am thinking, I might as well rent out a room closer to the school, or get my license and drive there.

Can you please tell me the new address of St. Paul's School of Nursing in Lake Success, NY? Did it open yet? What's the price of tuition for one semester, f/t? Thanks! ;)

I live on Long Island, and it's easier to navigate with a car. Public transportation on the Island is not as easy and convenient as it is in the city. You may get lucky and get clinicals near you in Manhattan. It depends on your class schedule and your budget. Decide if it's cost effective to move closer to the school and drive or not.

Otherwise, it might be easier to rent an apt near the school if you're not going to drive. Good luck.

Has anyone recieved info for Fall '09 semester orientation from St vin/St paul's yet?

The F train stops at 179 St and Hillside Ave, am sure there is a bus that goes up to Marcus Ave or LIRR to Jamaica, there is a bus depot there for city and Nassau busses. There should be a bus that goes towards LIJ/Lake Success. Good Luck!

I inquired about the spring. It's tempting to go there since they offer an ASN, but I worry that they're not accredited. What if I decide to transfer to a BSN program later, and they don't take me or all of my classes because of that? Does anyone have any experience with that? Should I be worried?

I just received mail from the school on Wednesday. They are going to be in Whitestone for the first semester and orientation is on the 27th! I think we should receive the welcome packet any day now. Are you starting in the fall??

Yes, I am. I just received the same letter. It sounds like classes will start the week of Aug 31. Is that correct?

Yes, August 31st is the first day of classes. Do you know how many people were accepted into the program? Are you from Queens?

I think its about 40 students accepted for each semester. I live on Long Island. I hope we get a little more info before Aug 27.

Hello Everyone,Just a quick note to say you shouldn't be too worried that the new SVCM school is not NLNAC accredited. Long as the program is accredited by NYS to award degrees you should be fine. As the school is under new ownership, it will take time for them to apply and be evaluated, then hopefully awarded NLNAC status. NLN takes many things into consideration including board passing rate of graduates. A new program may not have their ducks lined up in a row yet.

It is also common for schools to loose then regain NLNAC status, Long Island College Hospital's program lost status awhile back but now seems to be ok.

man, get used to the last minute info release by this school. you'll get a lot of last minute changes and for their screw up, you end up paying for it somewhere during the school year. last semester, we were in mary immaculate and st johns hospital for our clinicals. we've been hearing for a while that these two hospitals were going to close. we asked our instructors about their plan just in case it did, they told us they dont know. so when those two hospital closed, we were left with no where to go because the school admin didnt have a back up for us. they gave us two days off from clinicals to find a hospital that would accept us. we ended up in st vincent in manhattan(imagine travelling for queens or long island all the way to the city). to top it off, those two days that they gave us off coz we had nowhere to go, we ended up paying it off in the end of the school year. one of those days was right before the finals. so instead of precious study time, the day before the finals, we were still wiping some behind in clinicals. anyway.. good luck guys.
