Sacramento City College/American River College: How many times did you apply?

Published

I'm really looking for people currently in one of the above RN programs or former students of them. How many times did you apply before you got in? Also, did you ever know how many times your fellow students applied and/or what their grades were (I ask because I wonder if the computer takes grades into account at all, like picking the highest qualified applicants, or minimum qualified, or a good mix of all, that sort of thing)? Is the lottery really that "random"? I have heard/read that it's very rare someone gets in on their first try. I'm about to turn in my app packets, I'm just very nervous about the possibility of waiting 3,4, 5, etc semesters. I talked to someone who says she waited 6 semesters!

I got my email letter today too, and I didn't get selected :( How discourging to get turned down 5x, that is what I am afraid of happening to me. I wonder how Sac City will notify us? By email or letter? I hope the best for you, and let me know when you hear from the other colleges.

I'm sorry pollockgirl & 1DAYRNIHOPE. I'm right there with you. I didn't get accepted to ARC either. And mycoworker who applied for the Veterans program didn't get selected either. Now just waiting for Sac City. Let me know if you get accepted~ I have my fingers crossed for you!!

I just got the e-mail from sac city. :crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2: I'm so frustrated!!!!! I wish you luck pollockgirl & RNBound83. Keep you're fingers crossed for me getting into Modesto!

:crying2: I'm so p1ssed... I feel for all of us, I really do. I wish they had more private colleges to apply to here in Northern Cali (besides Western Career College, would never apply there).

I just got rejected from ARC for the seventh time! This is such a nightmare. With every rejection letter, I get closer to feeling like giving up. I'm going on 4 years waiting... I am THIS close to calling them and just telling them how I feel this is so ****ing rigged... I know my odds are still not that great, 7 out of 1300, but how is it that I am a qualified reapplicant but I've never even been picked for an alternate? It's smells like a load of BS to me. This whole journey has been incredibly disheartening... It's been hard to wade through all these negative thoughts. UGH! I just don't see how they think this is the most fair way of picking future nurses. I looked on the state's website on nursing statistics and there's some 14% attrition rate!!! SERIOUSLY?! Those spots could've been filled by people who were actually WILLING and dedicated NO MATTER WHAT to go through the rigors and hardships of nursing school.

My last hope for fall this year is Mount St. Mary's College in LA but the letters don't go out until next month.

Good luck to you all :redpinkhe

Nakgirl84, WOW 7 times and not picked yet? That's crazy! Such a long wait!!! Did you apply to Sac City & ARC? I'm so sorry. Hope you get into the program in LA.

1DAYRNIHOPE, Sorry you didn't get accepted. Hopefully you will at MJC. I have my fingers crossed! I didn't get accepted to Sac City either. Neither did my friend who's applied three times. Another friend has applied 7-8 times and she did get in to ARC.

This application thing is A NIGHTMARE! I didn't get into any Sac programs either. Round two of applications. Didn't get into Sierra college either. Still waiting to hear from one more. I'm really starting to regret not going to USF when I got in for this spring. Did I make a huge mistake? I hope not. I hope all of this does work out to be for the best. On the BRIGHT SIDE everyone, there seem to be NO jobs for new grads right now. I've talked to several recent Sac graduates and bay area graduates who cannot get a job ANYWHERE. So maybe in 2 years we will be better off??? I sure hope so. Good luck everyone. P.S. it's really good to have this blog to have people I can relate to. Thank you everyone for posting : ) Nakgirl, only 2 days until we hear from Delta : 0

I have been reading through everyone's posts here and I just want to tell you not to give up. I know how incredibly frustrating it is to endure the whole application/waiting process. I was in your shoes a couple years back. I started my prereq's in the summer of 2004. I finished my prereq's and started applying to every school in the area (SCC, ARC, Sierra, Yuba, etc), and finally after five times I got into ARC. I will be starting my fourth semester in August. I still remember how I felt after each rejection letter....Trust me when I say it just makes you stronger and more determined. Nakgir84, I can comment on the attrition rate. Most of those people are not leaving by choice. So please hang in there. Trust me when I say it will make it all worth it in the end. I hope this post helps....I can truly empathize with your frustration.

Don't feel bad because I have been denied in both schools ARC and Sac City..Ohh gosh let me see.. I can't count anylonger but I applied 6-7 times!!!!. I also applied in Stockton and they goes by point system not lottery. I was crying because I submitted my TEAS test result a day late and stockton won't care..so double check ur paperworks . I am applying again for next year 2011 and for the meantime I am also looking at RT program at ARC. Goood Luck everyone..

Did anyone applied at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton? I applied in Stockton, ARC and SCC for Spring 2011.

I applied at Delta (1st time), SCC and ARC (2nd time for both of those).

I FINALLY GOT IN!!! :monkeydance: Aquarius30, thank you for your words, you were right!

I got into ARC's program. Here's my insight, this was my 8th time applying = 4 years of waiting. I think with ARC and probably most nursing programs, they must be giving word to the people they've accepted first then who ever doesn't get in, the rest of the applicants get to know last... wah, wahhh, wahhhhhhhh... Which sucks, I was just there... Oh and ARC will tell you by email! The torture of not knowing is enough to drive you to insanity!

The application deadline was Oct 15th, I just found out today so in a little less than a month, they already told me I got in whereas the website says everyone will find out in about 8 weeks. It's weird how life works, I just got a job as a housekeeper @ Sutter roseville and I've been pouring a lot of my energy into my EMT class. I wasn't even thinking about my nursing application and BLAM, I get in. Weird! I literally have to keep say I'm a nursing student over and over and read my acceptance email... I still have time to let it sink in before class starts... OMG  I'm gonna be an RN in two years... gaaahhhH!!!

Hi NAKGIRL84,
