Sacramento City College/American River College: How many times did you apply?

Published

I'm really looking for people currently in one of the above RN programs or former students of them. How many times did you apply before you got in? Also, did you ever know how many times your fellow students applied and/or what their grades were (I ask because I wonder if the computer takes grades into account at all, like picking the highest qualified applicants, or minimum qualified, or a good mix of all, that sort of thing)? Is the lottery really that "random"? I have heard/read that it's very rare someone gets in on their first try. I'm about to turn in my app packets, I'm just very nervous about the possibility of waiting 3,4, 5, etc semesters. I talked to someone who says she waited 6 semesters!

I guess it is your first time applying? I just applied to Sacramento State and also waiting. One of my friend applied 3 times and got in in the fourth time to American River, but her classmate got in in the first time, so you have a chance even in the first time. They call it "random", but I don't believe it 100% random. I think people have more chances to get into SacState than into college, but good think about a college you don't have to have all "A". I talked yesterday to ARC, already applied more then 600 and today I was at SCC, there were 515 applicants, but by October 16 will be muuuuuuuuuuuch more, so GOOD LUCK!!!!! I wish you to get in in the first time:yeah:

Thanks for your reply. Yes, this is my first time applying. I have 6 more classes before I can apply to Sac State Nursing (one of which is in progress), good luck to you on your app there. :) These waits are just awful, so I am preparing myself not to be let down if I don't get into a CC the first time.

I think everyone has the same chance to get in. The only plus side of applying more times is having you're name put in double. I am a strong believer in everything happens for a reason. So if you don't get in the 1st 2nd or even 3rd time dont beat you're self up. Trust me I understand how hard it is to work so hard for something and now what? Let me give you a few examples to make you feel better. My best friend with a 4. GPA applyed for two years in this time she helped her mom out a lot. She filled out another app and two weeks later her mom passed. She would have never been able to spend so much time with her if she got accepted right away. She is currently in Sac states nursing program. Now to me I have been applying for two and a half years. A year ago I noticed a lump in my throat. Long story short I have cancer. If I was in the program I would have ignored it and would most likely be dead by now. I hope this helps with the worry I know you feel every day. Trust me it will all work out in time. It might not be what we wanted but if you want it bad enough it will happen. One more suggestion get on a wait list. If you don't you might kick yourself later.

Take care

Wow, 5 times!!! Yikes, I wish you good luck, I will post when I find out. If we are in we should know soon b/c we need to take the TEAS by May 27th at ARC.

Pollockgirl, I applied to ARC and SCC for my first time and my friend's applying for her 3rd time to both programs. How do you know you need to take the TEAS by the 27th for ARC? Just wondering since they're doing the drawing for the Veterans first and my coworker applied for that and hasn't heard anything.

1DAYRNIHOPE~ wow, 5 times is a lot! hope this is the semester that you get accepted!

pollockgirl~ forgot to ask you about the wait list at Solano. I see you're #403. How long have you been on the wait list? I'm not any wait list and just wondering if it's worth it to apply and how long the list is.

Thank you pollockgirl and RNBound83 :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe!! Pollockgirl I'm glad to know I'm not the only one stalking the ARC website for all the info!!! Did you see that pie chart thing? It made me want to cry. I would hope they would give everyone at least a two week notice for the test. Luckily I have already taken and passed it. I just feel bad for those who haven't taken it yet. What other schools has everyone out here applied to?????? I also applied to Modesto! They take 65 a semester and had only 400 apps last semester. This app period they are pulling for Fall2010 and Spring 2011 so I hope my chances are a little better. Even if it's and hour and a half drive :eek:I don't even care anymore I just want to get in!!!!!:D

I applied to Solano last fall, you can apply at any time after your prereq's are done. If you look on the class schedules for ARC, there is an enrollment acception to their 1st semester RN class, and that is that you must take the TEAS at their campus May 26th or 27th. I hope they give us ample warning to take the exam. I have not taken it yet, but I do have the study guide. If you dont pass it, they give you another chance to take it, so it is not that bad. I didn't know that they were drawing vetrans 1st? I know that they are giving 10 seats to them, please let me know if she hears before anyone else. Also, you can check at e-services (everyday like me) to see your status, mine is Application Qualified with no updates since feb/mar. Good luck to all.

Well I just got my e-mail from ARC. :crying2: I love how they attach a letter on how to reapply!!!! Ummmm I have done this 5x now I could prob tell you how to do it in my sleep!!! Oh well three schools left! Keep you're fingers crossed for me!
