I'm really looking for people currently in one of the above RN programs or former students of them. How many times did you apply before you got in? Also, did you ever know how many times your fellow students applied and/or what their grades were (I ask because I wonder if the computer takes grades into account at all, like picking the highest qualified applicants, or minimum qualified, or a good mix of all, that sort of thing)? Is the lottery really that "random"? I have heard/read that it's very rare someone gets in on their first try. I'm about to turn in my app packets, I'm just very nervous about the possibility of waiting 3,4, 5, etc semesters. I talked to someone who says she waited 6 semesters!
Nakgirl84 congratulations:yeah:
:yeah: !!!!!!I just got in also!!!!!!!!! I have been waiting for 3 years! I wonder if they just decided to accept all of us crazy people who have hung in there for so long!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYA!! Can't wait to meet you!!
YAAAY! Congrats girl!!! Can't wait to meet you too! How are we going to find eachother on orientation day? It's gonna be a whirlwind two years but bring it on! heheh I honestly think that they took that into account, for sure =)
pollockgirl and RNbound83, you WILL get in, you guys were witnesses to that. It WILL eventually happen, I promise. Your hard work will pay off and trust me, I'm not saying you're not appreciative now but you will be even MORE thankful once it happens for you.
In the meantime, try to do other things like that could possibly help you once you do get in. I took a CNA course a couple years ago, I worked as a surgery scheduler @ a vascular surgeon's office, I just got done working almost 4 years at a radiology company as a scheduler and right now I'm almost done with this EMT class. I had to do a 10 hr clinical observation at Mercy San Juan for the EMT class and I got to do chest compressions and ventilate a pt that had coded, saw a GSW victim and lots of psych pts. This class has definitely pushed me to do skills that I wasn't comfortable doing because it will be so much more intense during nursing school. I might as well get it out of my system now!
Also, another good idea, try to get ANY position at a local hospital. I just got hired on as an on-call housekeeper @ SRMC and I plan on working during nursing school to build my seniority and even though I'm not doing patient care, I still see the workings of a hospital on a day to day basis. It may make it easier to get a job as an RN after I graduate. I have a friend who worked as a transporter during nursing school and as soon as he got graduated, he had a job and he wasn't so terrified working on the floor because he already was familiar with the hospital and what goes on.
Bottom line, don't give up!
Thanks for the encouragement Nakgirl! Right now I work at an offsite Sutter facility and volunteer at SMH. I'd love to take a CNA class if I could find an evening/weekend program that was reasonable. if you hear of something let me know. BTW, I just got my denial from ARC. Waiting to hear from SCC and Delta now. Enjoy your time at nursing school! I'm sure it'll be a fun and exhausting ride!!
I finally got in too...but at SCC. I lost track, but I think this was my 5th time applying... I also had kinda given up but was still going through the application process. We had just made some job decisions that we had been putting off for a couple years just in case I got in....so, I was caught off guard.
But, I had to wonder if it was a joke or spam or something because in big bold letters it said "congradulations"..... really? a spelling error? lol...anyhow, I hope it was real.
I think everone is so frustrated by now. Especially when you hear of really lucky people getting in on their first try. At this point I wish they would just all go back to a merit based entry, with a wait list. At least then you would know that at some point you'd get in. Im not sure why they are keeping the lottery system.
Hello,
Never give up applying if you really want it. This was my seventh application for SCC and I just received my email today (I thought it was weird that they misspelled Congratulations also) accepting me as an alternate for Spring 2011. They stated I must sign up to take the TEAS on 12/2 or 12/3. Does anyone know which version they administer? Thanks for any info and keep trying!!
