?'s about NVCC

I am moving to NO VA next month and would like to apply to the nursing program at nvcc once I complete the pre-reqs. It says its a 2 year program but long does it usual take to complete?

Also, do you have to take math, bio and chem, or can you clep out on the entrance exam? Once you add in those three extra classes along with the other pre-req's, it seems like the program is neverending...lol TIA!

lol, Mrs V prob just copied and pasted anold email, lol Us fal of 2007 students were the first ones to use the new uniforms!

You dont want to bring a lot to clinicals, less the better! Al I brought was stethoscope--that pocket saver in which I put my pens, scissors and light in, and off course $$ credit card and drivers license! and my clipboard--which had some loose paper and other tid bits!!

That's funny because I figured the same thing. I hope the uniforms don't change, they are cute. And because I already ordered it! I don't mind green pants one bit. Besides they kind of match the color scheme the school already has going. AND I can't imagine them changing them after only 2 years. That is just silly.

As usual I was trippin' for no reason. This semester is going to be a cakewalk just like last semester. And my last cakewalk I am sure!

Can we have the physical done at the school? I swear I read somewhere that it can be done at the school for a small fee.

I don't want to drive all the way to Walter Reed for a physical

At one time they used to have a small clinic on the 1st floor by the bookstore, but thats no longer the case.

I called student services and he said the nursing dept could give me more information about going to one of the clinics that the school deals with. I will probably just wait until the orientation. I am sure they will tell us about it there. I knew there had to be some sort of option because not everyone has insurance or a healthcare provider that they can see for something like this. Right?

It wouldn't be the end of the world to go to WRAMC but that is a half-day trip for me and something I would pay to avoid, depending on the price.

I would email/phone Mrs V and she could tel you for sure. The school doesn't operate the clinics on a full time basis. I think last summer was the first they remained open during the summer months. The clinics are meant for people with no insurance. You as a student will get to do them, they are a blast. Bu tthose are prob not the ones student services are referring to. I believe their are low cost options, I'm sure the nursing dept would know

I had to get my physical completed early, as I spent most of that summer back in canada. So I called up Mrs V (the 1st yr student secretary) and gave me the required info right away) You have to do a drug test ( urinate in a bottle) as well (at least we did) and 1 of its locations is fairly close to the MEC.

I might go ahead and email her then. Like I said earlier I like to take care of everything early.

Thats what i did! I had it all completed by June! Even went and re did my CPR so it wouldn't expire during school (even though It was still good for 1 more yr at the time)

You will be amazed by the # of students who wont have stuff done by the beginning of class!! lol Some will have forgotten to get the TB test! Beginning of every clinical rotation, your clinical prof goes through your "binder" and ensure your all up to date with ur physycal, vaccinations, CPR, Insurance. And if it isnt up to date, most will send ya home! And you get marked down as a missed clinical!

That is another reason I don't want to go to WRAMC, I would have to drive out there twice in one week for the TB testing. I am so glad you brought that up! Now I will definitely email Mrs V. By the way, how often do nurses and nursing students have to do the TB testing? I had one back in 2003 but I have heard the health care professionals have to do it once a year-yuck!

My BLS class is on Saturday and I wish I had scheduled it for early August because I don't want it to expire the month after I graduate. I will be busy studying for the NCLEX!! I might call the school to see if I can reschedule it, I kind of doubt it though.

TB test is yearly!!

I am a military dependent and I go to Bethesda Navy Medical center near Walter Reed. I live in Fairfax and it only takes me 25 minutes to get there.

You can have them put in the TB order at the Health Care clinic of Fairfax.

You don't have to go all the way to Walter Reed for Labs.

Even prescriptions, you can have them put in for Fairfax, if that is closer for you.

That is a good idea. I will see if I can do the TB test at the FHC, that is where I have my prescriptions filled. I wish I could go somewhere other than WRAMC but I have asked several times and they won't budge. My husband is in the reserves and I think it has something to do with that...

I asked Mrs V. and she said the uniforms are not changing.
