?'s about NVCC

U.S.A. Virginia

I am moving to NO VA next month and would like to apply to the nursing program at nvcc once I complete the pre-reqs. It says its a 2 year program but long does it usual take to complete?

Also, do you have to take math, bio and chem, or can you clep out on the entrance exam? Once you add in those three extra classes along with the other pre-req's, it seems like the program is neverending...lol TIA!

Super unfair. How do you know so many people? From classes? I don't personally know one single person who applied, and I asked EVERYONE. Not that it matters, I just wanted a friend in the program :( Listen to me, I am such a loner.

I hope my letter comes tomorrow. The mail comes before 10 am so I will be ready and waiting bright and early!!

I made a few friends in 161 and 162 over the last year. Some of them were in both NAS classes with me.

I am sure you will make friends once you get settled in. You said that you just moved here.

I have been here for 5 years and have maybe a handful of people who I consider my true friends.

Please let me know when you get your letter.

I am sure it will come soon.:nuke:

CONGRATS!! Waiting does suck!! I knew no one when i went into the program, you will meet others, dont worry!

Congratulations! :yeah:

Thank you guys.

I am so excited, but I am starting to worry. It will be so hard, can I do it?

You can do it!

I know people with four kids who are doing it.

I know people with full time jobs who are doing it.

Every time I am scared, I look at those people, promiss myself to take one day at a time, and move on.

i got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:w00t::cheers::smiletea2::roll:anpom::hpygrp:*wine

now i can finally relax. and go to embroid me and buy my uniform!!

Congratulations!:hpygrp:

If had to buy uniform all over again, I would order their scrub top but get pants somewhere else. One of my classmates has pants she bought in the Mall that have nice cut and look great. Just make sure it's the right color. Also, I wish I ordered my name tag with rounded edges (less chances of accidentally scratching someone).

What else... we went through our first year without the use of a hemostat. Maybe next year? Love my purple Littmann stethoscope, but it's a little heavy to carry around in a pocket ( should not have it around the neck).

PS: The scrubs sizes run large, a good idea to try one on before ordering. I had to exchange mine for the smaller size.

Have fun!

Well that is nice to know because there is a much nicer cut in the same color (also Cherokee Workwear-style 4020). I have chunky thighs and those tapered pants would only add insult to injury! I was just worried about getting caught with the wrong pants. Some people take uniforms very seriously (I was in the military).

Can you wear your stethoscope on one of those hip clips? I also have a Littman stethoscope.

Check with Mrs. W. in the lab, many of us that just graduated donated our uniforms to her! Not sure if she is charging a fee or not, if she is, it wont be much!! I only used 1 pair of pants/1 top for the whole program! Just washed it as soon as I got in the door after clinical (don't want those germs in ur laundry basket!!)

Never bought a hemostat!! I had a Littman Classic IIE, and it did the job--just bought a Littman Card III, tad bit heavier, but a fair bit better, but one will have no probs with the classic IIe, and if it goes missing, ur not out a fair amount of $$$

Can you wear it around ur neck? depends on the clinical prof! Most are ok with that, clip woul dbe much better than putting it in ur pocket,as I have bent the metal pieces a few times from keeping it in my pocket, surprised I didn't bust it off!!

And some profs DO CHECK the uniform. As long as they are the same colors you should be fine. But some will make u pull up ur pants to see if ur socks are high enough!! they check ear rings, tattoos!! 1 in particular MS C (her name has the same meaning as drapes, lol) does check, BUT she is such an AWESOME prof, great person and an excellent prof. She teaches and does clinicals!

My only tips: do all the readings!! They love to ask questions that come from the "table" and "boxes" of your reading, and those boxes tend to summarize things quite nicely! Some stated they never did much odf the readings and relied on the PowerPoint slides, so each their own. The reviews and rationales books are nice,so is the Saunders Nclex book. Weird on how a few of the exam questions were very similar to those asked in the those books!

congrats and good luck
