Haven't traveled for almost 7 years. Am contemplating a return. Don't want to do the extensive move every thirteen weeks thing I did in 1990's and am thinking I want to purchase a "Toy Hauler" to bring my garage and toy's with me. I know the price of fuel will almost equal the cost of the vehicle per year but I just remember how much I hated to pack and unpack with every new assignment. I know some who travel with a suitcase, a plate, fork, spoon and some bed linens but I just can't. I even shipped my Kitchen stuff to Hawaii when I did that assignment. What's it like out there now?

US Virgin Islands is a great place to take a boat to live on!

Why can't you continue your current health insurance when you move? Even if it is through an employer, you can at least COBRA it for 18 months.

Because it's danged expensive and only covers providers employed by my hospital's parent company -- all local to where I live now.

That's a great reason. As far as I know, insurance bought on the healthcare exchange is portable so shop in the best state. Obviously you should check availability of providers nationwide. Cost is likely to be similar to your current insurance though, but may be less than Florida (I hadn't heard before that they were pricey - perhaps the current governor had something to do with that - the former CEO of HCA).

I'm glad to find this thread! My DH and I are talking about my trying travel nursing when he retires. We have a small travel trailer which we've taken several vacations in (several per year!) so we know we love the lifestyle. We enjoy the state parks and I understand that there's a more generous limit to the length of time we can stay if he works 20 hours per week (campground host or other volunteer work). It will be a few years before we can do this, so in the meantime I need to learn about travel nursing. I'm an experienced cardiac nurse but am seriously considering joining my hospital's float team to gain some more varied med/surg experience (and flexibility after working on the same it for years!). Does anyone else have similar experience?

Super excited! It's official. Just got approved for the RV loan! This thing is far fancier than any apartment I've ever had and 1/3 of the cost of our house. Can't wait to get the house sold!

If you abandon your home, are you abandoning tax-free benefits of travel?

Nope. We have a friend we are going to be paying minimal rent to. We are also maintaining our drivers license, registration, voter registration, library cards etc in this state, city with the new rented address.

I love taking long camping trips in mine... So I am sure I will enjoy traveling in it for work... I have a zoo of small animals and I just cant leave them behind or I would simply take company housing and not stress about finding a camground to stay at. If I cant get a motorhome I will just get a bigger travel trailer that has a little more room for all of us... Is yours gas or diesel fuel?
