Rutgers ABSN FALL 2017

Published

Hi there guys! I just submitted all my applications for Nursing School, including Rutgers ABSN Fall 2017. I am super stoked!

However, I am just missing two classes. They are Lifespan and Nutrition. Does anyone know where I can take Nutrition in New Jersey? Thanks. :)

Try taking it online, if you can.

You can try the community colleges in the area... BCC, OCC.

I'll try and check out BCC and will repost my findings. I found life span at a different community college. Hopefully, the timing fits!

Hi Johnwick101! I'm working on getting my application completed now, and I'm super stoked and just crossing my fingers. I took Nutrition and Lifespan online at BCC (now RCBC)... recommended. Good luck to you!

Is there anybody reading this who has already started the program who can weigh in on what it's like?

Hi

I am interested in applying to Rutgers Newark ABSN. My question I have is this:

I am missing two pre reqs General Chem 2 and Nutrition. Technically I need a third class too because I need to take General Chem 1 before General Chem 2.

Can I take those at Passaic Community College or do I have to take them at a four year school? Will Rutgers accept them from a community college?

I have taken all of my prerequisites at community college, which Rutgers has said are just fine. You might be able to avoid the Chem shenanigans by taking a Chem class that's "organic". I took "general and physiological chemistry" at Mercer County Community College, which is a class designed for healthcare students, and the lady in the Rutgers program office said that it would suffice for the Chemistry requirement (that way I avoided having to take Chem I and then also Chem II). The nursing office at Rutgers was helpful in assisting me in finding a Chem class in my area that would meet the program requirements - you might consider giving them a call and saving yourself some grief.

Taking classes at a community college is fine. By the way, guys, which certification do we need as a prerequisite to the program?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

NJ universities must accept courses from community colleges within the state. Years ago there were issues with them refusing to do so in an attempt to discourage students from attending 2 year colleges then transferring to 4 year schools, to save money. About 10 years ago the NJPC, which covers all the higher ed institutions within the state that receive state aid, came up with an agreement regarding transferring credits from a 2 year to 4 year institution, with or without a degree. You can look on NJ TRANSFER: Linking New Jersey's Colleges and Universities to see what the course equivalencies are between the school you want to take the classes at, and the school you want to transfer them to.

The only certification we need is the American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider certification for Adult, Child, Infant and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). They ask for a copy of that in the program requirements section, I think.

You are right. I called them a few days ago just to make sure it was the right one. I am scheduled to take the class next week. It does not seem too bad. It is $75 for a course which lasts a day. Pretty exited to see what I learn from it. By the way, did anyone here apply to Seton Hall's Traditional and Accelerated program? I have not heard back from them yet. Although, I did get accepted to there Master's program in "Clinical Nurse Leader". Anyways, I hope you guys are exited as I am to start September anywhere, but more precisely at Rutgers ABSN!!

-John
