Rush University GEM Fall 2016

Published

Hey everyone!

For those who have applied or are interested in applying to Rush University's Generalist Entry Master's (GEM) Program, I'm here starting a thread so that we can get to know one another and keep each other informed throughout the application process.

I submitted my application December 20th through NursingCAS and completed the supplemental application on the morning of December 21st.

I was e-mailed almost 3 hours after I submitted my supplemental application for an invite to interview for the month following the application deadline (February) since the deadline is January 4th.

Has anyone else already received an invite for an interview?

I'm coming from Bay Area CA, so I'm hesitant as I'm quite unfamiliar with the area. I've heard Chicago is an awesome city to live in, so please feel free to chime in on your experiences with this area as well as I'd love to hear about it. Also, if there are any people currently going through this program, any comments/advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you all and GOOD LUCK!!!

Congrats, nbs11!!!

Thank you! Yes, this was my first choice. I actually only applied to this program and Depaul's. I have not heard back from DePaul yet.

So you would choose Rush if you get into DePaul too?

For those of you who got in, if you wouldn't mine sharing your GPA

imnwondeing if it's worth it for me to reapply

Yes, i was wondering the same?

What I have found out by talking to people who actually got excepted is that all of them had GPSas of at least 3.6 and at least some medical experience they all have their CNA's and minimum of three months working as a CNA's

Yes I will go to rush even if I get into DePaul. I graduated with a 3.7 overall gpa. I'm not sure what my gpa was for the prerequisites as I forget what the required classes were again. I could let you know if you reminded me! My background is that I volunteered at a local hospital for about 2 years.

Specializes in Anesthesia.

OMG, I got waitlisted, too!

Congrats KO_1219! You've been accepted to many programs, haven't you? Which one have you decided to go to?

Thanks crescendo88 ! I feel very blessed and lucky that I have been accepted to a few! I'm still weighing out the pros and cons between these programs, and I'm actually waiting to hear back from a couple more schools. I hope to hear from them before the March 18th deadline for the tuition deposit. I'll keep you all posted on whether or not I choose Rush :)

recieved my acceptance this morning! I'm sorry about the wait listing! But definitely don't lose hope and if rush is your dream school, you can always apply for the next term!

Congrats nbs11 !!! Glad you got into your top choice!

I was waitlisted and it is kind of a bummer. I thought I had a good chance as my prerequisite GPA was 4.0 and my undergrad GPA was 3.6, also I worked as a nutrition aide in a behavioral health facility for almost 2 years and I have been working as a CNA since October 2015. Also my interview went very well. I just wish I knew where I dropped the ball. I know being waitlisted isn't being outright rejected, but still.

I think our grades and experiences don't matter that much, but WHO we interviewed with. Since we are all interviewed with different staff members, instead of the committee. It really depends on how they recommended us..

when I was interviewing, I asked my interviewer what makes a competitive applicant for one of the questions. She went through this checklist that she had that had important qualities they were looking for. I'm not sure if it was for them to make a recommendation to the admission committee or just for the admission committee in general. She said it was your acedemic record, your understanding of the role of the nurse and how you would fit that, and then your personality. I think I might be forgetting one quality.. But Just wanted to share what I had heard!

My GPA is about 3.7 and I have work experience in the medical field as well as current volunteer experience in a hospital.

I guess my interview didn't go well...
