Hello! I haven't seen a thread for Rush yet, fall 21 entry to the generalist entry masters program. I applied earlier this fall and received an interview invite a week or two later. Looking to connect with others!
@Daniel2021 and @RoDob thanks for all the intel it is much appreciated. It looks like most apartments are about the same size and cost as the one I had in LA two years ago. I definitely want something that is walkable or very easy metro commute. I've done the long SoCal commutes and I have no desire to add that into my life again.

I was digging into the housing situation, as I'm an out-of-state applicant, and realized they currently don't have on-campus housing. I'm trying to get a sense of how much apartments go for and what would be close (I.e. walking) versus "do-able" (3-4 metro stops).
Hi! Chicago native and Rush University grad here. I attended Rush for my undergrad degree and now am hoping to gain acceptance into the GEM program. While I attended Rush quite a few students lived at the Taylor Street lofts (university student housing for mostly UIC and Rush students). I believe that Rush even has shuttle bus that has scheduled times that it picks up and drops off students (I would double check that incase covid changed the situation). I believe its a pretty affordable student option if you can find find a few roommates.
Another option thats super close is the SCIO apartments right down the street. Its about $1500 for a super small studio if your not interested in having roommates.

I hope I could help. Please feel free to reach out wit any other questions. I'm pretty familiar with the area and the University.
t_ericaw has listed some really nice options. If you could find one roommate, the SCIO is a better location (only 1.5 blocks away from campus, short walking distance to 2 blue line stops and buses) and deal (larger spaces for the same price or cheaper).
For those who have never lived in Chicago or a loft, here are some of my thoughts.....
Lofts may seem really cool and hip, but if you're not used to studying with noise, you might not like being able to hear what your neighbors above, below, and next to you are up to. ? Trust me...you hear EVERYTHING. They also are harder to heat in general because of how they're designed and high ceilings.
Chicago winters can get bitterly cold where you need thermos under jeans and your legs will still feel the sting when the wind is blowing. You'll need a good coat that's long enough to at least cover your posterior. Wool coats are only pretty to look at. I recommend one that is rated for all day outdoor Winter activities. We're in a Polar Vortex ATM. ?️ + ❄️ = ?
I heard that you will get a UPass (unlimited rides on CTA) "with your tuition" which basically means you have no choice but to pay $165+ for it. You might be able to opt out of it due to COVID...not sure. It's an awesome deal for those who don't have to commute in or when COVID isn't a threat because if you weren't a full time student, you'd have to pay $105 a month. Don't lose it....I had to pay $50 to get a replacement when I was in undergrad. ? There are bus tracker apps that show you when the next bus is coming...great for those rainy or cold days. The "L" stops have message boards that show when the next one is arriving. Both RUSH (Medical District stop) and O'Hare (final stop) are on the blue line.
Hope that helps!
How did everyone do on their interviews? Are you relieved now that it's over? Anyone nervously biting their nails? I don't know about you, but time has slowed exponentially for me after the interview. March 5th feels like it's never going to come.
Has anyone started researching and planning in anticipation of getting accepted?

I’m in the devastating place of having found out this morning that I was rejected from my first choice school, UCLA. My brain is spinning trying to figure out what next. While I received an accept to UT Austin it’s my last choice, but I have to give intent before March 5th decisions come from Rush. I’m also on a waitlist at Marquette, where they don’t give you a rank so you could be #1 or #30 no clue.
So I’m with you, time is going to creep by for the next 3 weeks. The tension is awful.
I thought my interview went quite well, but after this rejection I guess I suddenly realize nothing is a guarantee...I’m also scared of committing to a school that I’ve never actually stepped foot into. Ugh all the emotions today.

I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get into your first choice. I know how disappointing it is. Is there an option to apply for transfer at a later date? Or would you rather just to finish at one location? Have you asked UT Austin to give you a little more time so that you can make your decision after you've heard from Rush? Hope they agree to give you a little more time. I'll also cross my fingers regarding your acceptance into Marquette and Rush so that you'll have all your picks.
I agree that it's scary to commit to a place you've never been to before. When it comes to Rush, I know it's a great teaching hospital because I've experienced it first hand as a patient and a family member of one. I also friends who've graduated from Rush. One is a neurologist and the other a GEM grad who became a lead nurse pretty quickly. Rush was the only program I applied to. I hope that makes you feel a little better. LOL.

I am looking up of averages of acceptance but have come to nothing. It is nerve racking but there always hope. March 5th will come in no time.
@wgreguol I heard they usually get 400 - 500 applicants but @nutbutter_girl heard 300 - 400. Rush accepts only 76 regardless of number of applicants. If it's 300 - 500 applicants then the acceptance rate is anywhere from 15.2% to 25.3%. Hope that helps!

Hello! I got rejected from UCLA too. It wasn't necessarily my first choice but it would've been close to home. I also got waitlisted from Johns Hopkins and like Marquette, they don't give you your ranking status. Fingers crossed for all the other schools we applied to and hopefully we hear some good news soon ?
Let the countdown to Decision Day commence. 2 weeks to go!
It looks like from prior cohort terms/years that they have a healthy size waitlist of 35 people and that they do give you your rank on that list, which is nice. A lot of schools won't tell you where you are on the list beyond how many total people are there.
Does anyone have any idea how many people they interviewed out of the total applicant pool?

@Daniel2021 I'll mainly be driving because it'll be more convenient and take less time since I no longer live near the loop.
I just looked up rent in my old building (west loop) and it's about $1550 - $2000 for a one bedroom with laundry in unit, small gym....and maybe a parking spot too.
Here's a huge apartment complex that was next to my old place. It has a lot the amenities but I don't know the price range. Just in case anyone is interested... https://www.presidentialtowersapts.com/
