Rush GEM Fall 2021

Published

Hello! I haven't seen a thread for Rush yet, fall 21 entry to the generalist entry masters program. I applied earlier this fall and received an interview invite a week or two later. Looking to connect with others!

I had mine today also - great experience overall x

curious as to how the decisions will take place. I feel like it can be biased if it’s only one faculty member interviewing.

Interview went well. Felt like we had an instant rapport. It was certainly more relaxing and casual than the one I had with another school I applied. I'm glad to now have all my interviews complete -- the waiting can begin.

With a waitlist response from one school and my others still pending I'm trying to remain optimistic.

There are many interviewers. I was told they were "pooled so it doesn't matter when you interview. The decision will be made together at the end." I personally don't know what that means exactly but that was what I heard. LOL

@FutureGreennurse42 @msy2 I understand you guys. it is a crazy nerve wracking experience! But honestly out of all of the interviews I've ever had this one was the most relaxed (and trust me I'm usually a sweaty ball of anxiety).

My interview made me feel like they want to get to know me better and see is nursing school is a good match with me, my personality, and life goals.

So if you want some advice I would say just know yourself. Memorise the lessons that you learned from your life and job experiences and what the role of a nurse is to you, and embody it.

You guys GOT! THIS! I KNOW IT. Show Rush your full potential and beautiful selves. And keep practicing those practice questions, they may come in handy!

Thank you so much for those kind words ? I will definitely show them my best self.  You're awesome ?

:))

If you have had your interview already and have not emailed a thank you note to your interviewer please make sure you do. Having worked in the corporate field for years, hiring staff, this gesture goes a long way.

Thank you for the reminder!!

Thank you so much for reminding me! I meant to send one the day after but it slipped my mind because I had work.

Fingers crossed that we'll all get to meet each other and be in the same cohort!

Question for anyone local to Chicago. What neighborhood(s) is Rush located in? I was digging into the housing situation, as I'm an out-of-state applicant, and realized they currently don't have on-campus housing. I'm trying to get a sense of how much apartments go for and what would be close (I.e. walking) versus "do-able" (3-4 metro stops).

It's in the Medical Village but it's close to Little Italy and West Loop. I used to live in a condo in West loop next to Union Station. It was very convenient because I rarely needed my car. There were shuttles outside of Union Station that took students to the different schools. There's also a bus hub there and a quick walk to the blue line.

There's a dorm/apts for students from surrounding universities that's "relatively new." Here's the link in case you're interested. It's also in a very convenient location. Multiple bus and "L" lines near by along with lots of restaurants, grocery stores (Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Jewel). Most of the museums are also within walking distance.

If you have any questions let me know. I've been living in Chicagoland for 20 years....hope that doesn't make me seem like a fossil LMBO.

To add to @RoDob, if you plan on using the train or bus a lot, try to avoid having to transfer lines if you can help it. That can help save some commute time. Street parking in the West Loop can be a pain as well unless your apartment/condo has reserved parking or you can also pay for a monthly parking spot. I live in north Chicago, so will probably be riding the bus or biking a lot, LOL.

Oh, regarding apartment rent, I have no idea how much the monthly cost is near Rush, but many landlords may require a full month rent plus deposit and background check/references before signing a lease. I just wanted you to be prepared that you may have to shell out some funds to sign.

@RoDob, are you going to be mainly driving or taking Metra?
