Rose State Spring 2011

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Hey Everyone!!!

I'm getting ready to apply to Rose State's Beginning track for the first time & I'm getting really nervous. Is anyone else applying for the Spring 2011 semester? I have 132 points, but I'm afraid that won't be enough. How is everyone else on points? Also, if anyone one has any tips, I would be happy to hear them :) Thanks!

Hi, jaime,:D

I'd be surprised if you weren't good at 132 points, but it does vary. IIRC, that's what I was accepted with. Like any program, there's some good, some not so good. I believe they've had some organizational changes since I graduated (Dec.'10).

If you have patient care experience, you probably won't find the first two semesters that difficult. If you're a complete newbie, its going to take some effort. The best suggestion I would have for you is to (NOW) look up Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Erickson's Stages of Development- you can find them on-line. Start thinking about how people with various illnesses will need help in working towards "positive growth in the face of disability" and "meeting safety and social goals".

I.e., a newly diagnosed diabetic, we'll say an adolescent, will have dietary needs (Safety-Maslow) and changes (how they adapt and comply with those changes will depend on what their developmental stage and capacity is on Erickson's scale). IOW, they will have to be "ready for education" (you'll see this again) and, looking at the Adolescent stage in Erickson, they may revert to a stage where they accept less responsibility- Mom and Dad are supposed to take care of them.

To make it easy, take Maslow and Erickson and look at illness, stressors or trauma in your life, and see where it fits, and how you adapted. This will give you some personal insights that will hopefully make using these tools easier. You'll use these extensivelypainfullydailyforever in your careplanning.

Good luck!

thank you so much for the advice. i do have patient care experience and i'm happy to know that it will help make nursing school a little less difficult. i have studied maslow & erickson a little in past classes so i'm somewhat familiar with them and i will definitely begin so study it further. thanks again for your very helpful tips and encouragement! :)

Hi Jamie-

I am getting ready to apply as well. I will have either 131 or 132 points (depends on if they accept my current position as a medical admin clerk as limited patient experience). I applied in the spring (I only had 117 points, knew I wouldn't get it but thought it couldn't hurt) the cut off was 129 points. The semester before that it was 131. As far as I can tell the cut-off has never gone over 131 but perhaps someone with more knowledge will know better :)

Good luck to all those applying!!!

Has anyone put in their application yet?? I am taking mine over tomorrow :)

I turned mine in yesterday :D

What was your first choice? Mine is online.

I want traditional. Do you know when we'll find out if we made it?

I can't swear to this but, I think they will start sending acceptance letters out in November. A friend of mine got in last year, and I want to say he got his shortly before Thanksgiving break...Man, that seems like a long time away!

I just turned in my application today with 131 points. The lady in the nursing office said i shouldnt worry about not getting in with 131 points but by Thanksgiving the official letters would be out :)

I CANNOT WAIT! :)

That's what she told me & I hope she is right! It would be so awesome if we all got in (:

I am applying too! :) I have either 130 or 132 points now, but am retaking the math next week, and will hopefully do better this time! Soooo nerve racking! I will feel much better if I can increase my math score and get 2 more for sure points!?!!!

Good Luck to All!!!
