Stop by, introduce yourself, say a little about yourself. :)
Hi all, thought I'd "check-in" here as I finally "feel" like a student. Have been a LVN for goin on 25 years and been doin the Excelsior program (off and on) since 1998..anyway only have 5 tests and the CPNE left, will have the tests knocked out by the end of October and hope to get an appointment for the CPNE by Jan. Are there any other Excelsior students out there? Would love to hear from ya and comiserate. BTW, DW does her CPNE the last week in October..she will have completed the program in just 7 months!!! I'm so proud of her.
It can be done, I'll be all finished with the program (EC) after my last humanities requirement next week. Did it in 8 months. I'm curious to see if they make me wait for the FCCA, that's not scheduled to be ready til November. Good luck to DW and to you!
Hi there! My name is Jessica. I'm currently a 26yo LPN from Missouri. I started my nursing career as a CNA for a year in LTC, followed by 8 months as an LPN in LTC and now an LPN in Med/Surg for the past year and 5 months.
After 2 years of planning to do the Excelsior College Progam, I decided I just didn't have the motivation to do it on my own. So I am back to the old-fashioned, sit-in-a-class form of schooling. lol. This semester (Fall 2008) I'm taking Microbiology and Human Physiology while continuing to work 12hr nights Friday-Sunday. Spring 2009 I'll start the RN bridge program at State Fair Community College.
I am so looking forward to graduating in December 2009. It's a long awaited step for me...the pay increase will finally allow me to move out of my parents' house!!!
I still have alot of time, but my current interest is trying to figure out what area I want to work when I'm done. I'm looking into step-down unit, infusion nursing, and sub-acute unit.
I just got a call from the Dean, they had a last minut drop and I'm IN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm currently working on a telemetry/ICU stepdown unit. I always get the giggles when I hear people say, "Oh, LPNs are only given stable patients." Uh, if they're all good, they aren't with us. In the last six months, I've seen DIC, dissecting esophageal varices, AAA, had suicidal pts, had pts with traches, nephro and rectal tubes, and one memorable woman who thought the contents of her colostomy bag was fingerpaint and her body was a canvas.
One thing about nursing, it's rarely boring...
I am a 5o year old lpn with 20 years(10 years out of practice). I got divorced, 3 kids and ended up with a job with General electric non nursing. Due to China taking our jobs, my plant is due to close, I am ready to go for the RN and petrified!!!! I applied for rue and 9 months never opened the book. I am not a home study person!! So that was $$$$ out the window. I plan on going back to school winter quarter and start all over again, however some credit because of my lpn. Can someone PLEASE give me some motivation???? I know in my heart that this is my passion and I will still have to work and go to school full time, is any of this possible??? Help!!!!
Stephanie47black, not to fear! If you want it, you can do it! School and work full time is difficult, but if you are good at time management, you can handle it. Will you still be working the job for GE or is the plant closing soon? Keep us updated, ask questions, and remember people are here to provide support! good luck!

Stephanie:
I definitely can relate to your circumstances. I was 50 when I divorced and moved to a rural area that offered no insurance jobs (or any other jobs for that matter) that would pay me what I was paid in the metropolitan area I previously had lived in. I returned to school, did my generals, got accepted to nursing school and completed my LPN last year. August 25th I begin my RN year. Don't let anyone tell you that because you're past 50, you cannot learn what you need to know. I'm living proof that they are wrong! Work hard, be a good student and know that you can do this!
helloI live in South Jersey, am Im currently in my 2nd month of LPN school. Does anyone know is it better to do the LPN-RN online or on Campus..Also how long is the average program and anyone know a school in NJ.
Hi, my name is dawn, I'm also in williamstown. congrats on nsg. school. as far as lpn-rn, it depends on your sched. Online is great, but if you prefer trad. then try Helene fuld in camden. Hard program, but highly recomm.

Amen. I agree that the doubters will be convinced that you are the "ideal" student when they are wise enough to see it!

Are you in the EC program or are you in a traditional program? I'm currently enrolled in a Comm. College taking pre-reqs and statistics is req'd and I am really terrified to take it.
