I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!
i know what you mean about the waiting...... i keep worrying that i did not turn in all of the required documents, although i checked everything a million times before i submitted it.... it's already july, so we're closer than we were last week! lol!
you're right....a week closer and only about 10-12 weeks left, and then the wait for the program to start. i'm taking a lot of classes this fall though, so maybe it'll keep my mind busy! lol i worry about my application package too, especially since webadvisor says that none of it has been received (what really worries me is that they say they haven't received my high school transcripts, which i submitted to hcc back in '08 when i started there). i've emailed the lady in charge of the applications a couple of times, but she won't give me a straight answer....so i'm just keeping my fingers crossed!

As long as HCC has your HS transcripts you should/will be fine. I know "My Documents" didn't update until after the spring semester began and they started looked at the applications. Hang in there and all will be fine! Good luck on your classes this fall!
I am so glad to hear yall feel the same way. It seems as though previous classes started their reading soon after they found out if they were excepted. I read on other threads that there is a med calc. test over 8 chapters that is pretty much self study soon after you start. Do any of you plan to start that once you get your confirmation in September? I look forward to reading how the fall class of 2010 is doing once they start. I read their posts in the spring as they waited to hear and I felt as anxious for them. I remember reading some of them were alternates and you could just read how crushed they were. Soon after I saw where they were finally chosen. Whew, what a roller coaster ride.

I plan on starting my studying during winter break. I am taking 5 classes over the Fall semester and don't think I'm gonna have the time or energy to devote any additional studying to a class I'm haven't started yet! Sooo, my winter break will consist of preparing for the upcoming Nursing program. How fun! lol
My stomach is in knots (this waiting is killing me). Basically, I have everything riding upon this acceptance and I've recalculated my GPA so much, I'm starting to dream about it. I have AP credit in a few courses and took some at HCC with a pretty ok GPA (3.68) but the only transfer class that has a grade is the MAC 1105 I took 5 yrs ago in which I got a C+ (which will be counted as a C) so it drops me to a 3.39. ::teeth chattering:: I'm praying for all of us :redpinkhe b/c it sounds like there are some awesome ppl in here (who give great advice) and when I was in IB, since it was so challenging and it was so few of us, I made some amazing friendships. Hope it's not idealistic of me to hope to do the same should I get accepted this Spring.
Good Luck Everyone!!!!!
Ugh, mine are still "not received". I wonder how they process them (by alphabetical order or in the order that they came in, etc). I sent my app as soon as the right before the spring semester was over (the lady in charge of the applications told me it was fine to send it early). My app fee check has been cashed and I received my self-addressed postcard as confirmation that they received my app. Oh well...only a little over two months to go! lol
