I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!
Thanks Stephi! I fell the same way about telling my friends and family about the "2 year" program and having to explain that will actually take an additional one year of pre reqs plus 6 months of waiting to see if i'm "IN". I figured I may as well take some classes that counts toward a BSN while im waiting and since the pell grant covers it I will take advantage. Im taking Algebra, English 2, and am considering taking Chemistry too.

I am working towards my AA in Liberal Arts while I'm waiting (these are also classes needed for admission into the BSN program). This waiting is the perfect time to get some of the classes taken care of! I'm curious though, you mentioned you were taking algebra. Did you already complete it? Because it is now required for admission into HCC's nursing program.
Also, I wish I could apply now, but I am required to complete Algebra before I apply. Is that correct? We can't apply until the pre reqs have been completed and entered into the system.
I'd love to put in my app while in progress of completing my final prerequsite.
Ohhh ok. I thought you had already applied for the Spring '11 start. You're right, the pre reqs do have to be completed BEFORE you can apply....to HCC, anyway. I have heard that you can apply to PCC (Polk Comm College) before the pre reqs are finished but don't know how true it is. I also wish I could have applied before completing them, because I'd probably be starting the program next month instead of Spring, but oh well. I'm taking 5 classes this fall as I wait, the hardest being Statistics (ugh, NOT looking forward to it), but it'll be worth it when I'm done. lol
Just a word of advice, I don't know your situation (if you work, have a family, etc) but be very careful not to take on too many difficult classes. Algebra was very difficult for me and required a LOT of study time...I'm not sure how hard chemistry is, and I have been told that physics is not a piece of cake....So make sure to check out the professors on www.RateMyProfessors.com , because a great professor makes all the difference! Good luck!

Hope: Stats isn't that bad just remember to NOT over analize what you are doing....remember you are only going to be in an beginner level course and not going to be going into statistics as a major. The biggest mistake I saw people do when I taught/tutored it was they over analized what was being asked of them. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice...that's what I worry about. I tend to over analyze everything, in every aspect of life, lol. That's what made algebra so hard for me, is that I wanted to over analyze that as well. Once I realized to just follow the steps to get to the desired answer, it was much easier!
documents recieved finally! however, this just confirmed what i already knew, not as comforting as id hoped -im so anxious!!- i know that they are "only human" but if all that matters is gpas, then why cant the computer just spit out the top 156 spots? i dont understand what a meeting is needed for?...ughhh i just want to know!... i need school to start so i can have somewhat of a distraction.
ok just when i didnt think it was possible for me to freak out any more than i already was- i just looked at my progress toward degree again and noticed that it said program req of 13 cr-hrs instead of 21? what? of course that 13 would include my only two bs(enc1 and ap1lect). the rest of the 21cr-hrs are listed as "other courses"...if only 13 are counted then that takes my gpa down! ughh my stomach! does anyone know anything about this?... sorry guys, this is my only venting place as my husband doesnt "get" what im so crazy over. i swear im usually a little more positive.
When I was going through the process my "progress towards degree" was never right....now that I am in the program it is correct! I am sure you all have nothing to worry about. Try to relax and breath, it is the only way you will make it through this waiting game! Good Luck and enjoy your summer!!!!!

Yessssss, my documents have been 'received'! WHEW!!! What a relief!
Stephi1985, I know how you feel...my '2 year nursing' degree will actually be a 4 1/2 year degree (as long as I'm accepted into the program for this spring semester). lol
