Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a few responses to see if I want to spend my $200 and change on a review course or if I should spend it on myself.

:D

All my high stress nursing buddies are definitely taking the course, but I am iffy about it.... so I'd like some input.

Thanks in advance,

Reb

School offered the course it was nice and gave us some indication of what degree the questions would be like. I liked the CD rom that came with my nclex study book better.... It was a great guide. It will all depend on your study habbits to be honest if you havent really studied then it isnt that much help to you but if you have you will breeze right through it.

Well, I voted--but only 'cause you said "please." ;) (And your new avatar IS very cute, Reb!)

I knew several RNs who all loaned me different review texts. Throughout school, I'd also kept a running list of questions that my instructors (one of whom wrote questions for the NCLEX) noted in class would almost certainly be on the test. Took the list and the review books and checked into a inexpensive motel for a few days to minimize distractions and FORCE myself to study. Went through each book cover to cover and did all the test questions. After I was done I felt much more confident about my readiness for the NCLEX. Passed without a problem.

I took a review class and bought review book. I felt it was worth the money, I also got to spend 3 days a way fromm home...needed it at the time...computer shut off at 75..passed first try...

I think alot of it depends on how good of a test taker you are. I know some people that had such test anxiety it was unbelievable! Some of those people I know had problems with NCLEX, no matter how many reviews or study groups they attended.

NCLEX was very stressful, and it would have been easy to get overstimulated and not be able to concentrate on it. Now if I felt this way, I can only imagine how those with test anxiety managed to get through the experience.

Good point, Heather. I've always been very good at standardized tests, so that gave me an extra shot of confidence going in. I think that if you can find a way to beat your nerves, you're way ahead of the game to start. That was the whole point of the self-review, for me.

Part of my degree requirements was that we HAD to take a review course. Not sure I agree with that but...fortunately I took an exceptional course and studied with 2 good friend. We all passed.

I did not study at all for the exam. I figured if I did not know it by then I never would.

Everyone was cramming for the test in Columbus when I stayed her but I did not take any books. I was tired LOL.

I didn't take a course, and I passed, but it was so long ago I'm not sure my input counts! Archaic pre-computer era......

Tell us about how you did your math calcualtions on the abacus! :chuckle

:kiss Heather

I didn't take the review course, and I didn't have any trouble with the test. I did however buy the review book, and studied it with a few friends. I think that helped some, although I didn't study a lot. Ofcourse, I am one of those ppl who is great at taking tests too. Good luck!

I actually voted in the poll, but I'm only posting a comment because I think Delerium/Rebecca's new av is so cool.

Aww, thanks. The pic is so sweet I think I'm sliding into a diabetic coma.

Thanks everyone. I have a great academic record and I am a good test taker.

Also at my school we take an exam close to the end of the semester that is supposed to be a practice for the boards... it evaluates your strong points and weak points and what to focus on. I'm really leaning toward using that information, working with a couple review books, and not doing the class.
