Hello,
I am posting this for my wife. My wife was an RN in Thailand before she married me and moved to California. We are in the SF Bay Area. We were able to have her complete the paperwork with CA BRN and she is qualified to take the NCLEX exam. First try at it though she did not pass.
She has gone to Kaplan for review but that course wasn't much help to her but the online test review for 3 months was OK for her. We were thinking of having her go through a vocational school, such as Unitek or Western Career College or even a community College to enroll in the LVN program so that it will:
1) give her motivation to study more
2) gets hands on experience at current processes or equipment
3) be surrounded with other people in the same career field
For now she studies at home and we also have a 2.5 year old son to take care of.
Her 2nd attempt for the NCLEX will be this September but we are willing to change that to a later date and see other options to attend nursing class for review . Her English skills are not that great, that is also why we want to enroll her in school.
Any advise is appreciated, thanks!

Hi. We have an NCLEX forum where perhaps you can get some tips. I'll move this post there.
Good luck.

It maybe better to get her English skills up to speed and then she can understand the questions. If you are thinking of delaying her exam date it may be worth considering Suzanne's plan, all information can be found as a sticky on the main NCLEX forum page and was initially designed for foreign trained nurses although many many people both foreign and US trained use it with excellent results
Thanks Tweety!
Silverdragon102,
Thanks for the information, also in re-emphasizing Suzanne's plan once more.

There is no reason for her to go thru an LVN program when she has gone thru a full four year program in Thailiand.
Please have her complete my first tip and then contact me, I am very familiar with most of the nursing programs that are available over there and there is no reason that she cannot get thru this exam.
If she worked in BKK at one of the major facilities, most of the equipment is the same as here in the US. They purchase most of their equipment from the US.
She can get thru this exam.

Hi Suzanne,
My wife has never worked in Bangkok. She had worked for a hospital close to her hometown in Sakon Nakhon (not in the city itself) ; Most recently (from 2001 to 2004) she had mainly work at a clinic in the local villages. They didn't do as much that a nurse would do in a hospital, just basic care.
We do have the book in regards to your "first tip" and am going through that now. We have also enrolled her in some English class to improve on her English grammer as well.
Oh, by the way , she went to the Nursing College in Mahasarakham:wink2:
thanks again for the advice!
Know that province well, several of my students were from there.
You are quite welcome.
