Have you heard about her. She got flu vaccine from somewhere and was selling it in supermarkets. Wasn't she breaking a couple of laws and won't the BON in that state lift her license? :uhoh21: She scared the heck out of a lot of people when they found out she was not authorized. However, there is a even worse case where a person was giving them out on a college campus and the authorities can not even figure out who was giving the shots and what they were giving.

What A Legal Mess If Anyone Had A Reaction To The Vaccine Or If The Vaccines Were Contaminated. She Is Acting Out Of The Scope Of A R.n. Each Person Would Have Needed A Physicians Order For The Vaccine, She Would Have Had To Register With The County Health Dept, The Vaccine Lots Would Have To have Been Recorded, She Would Not Have Been Allowed To profit Off Of It, And She Damn Well Better Have malpractice insurance!

Apparently she is a Canadian who "is not in good standing" with the RN association in British Columbia. She got a WA. state license while under review in Canada.
They were just saying on the news that the vaccine was the real thing, but she didn't work with the company she said employed her.
If those patients needed a physicians order why were they flocking across the border for flu shots? In BC there is a public notice in the paper stating the "at risk groups" and if you fall into one of the groups you just show up for the shot. Health care workers qualify automatically, as do pregnant women in the third trimester who will deliver in "flu season".

There was a similar case in MN (Minneapolis/St Paul area) this past week-a nurse selling "shots" for $20 each at the Augsburg college campus. Her presence wasn't questioned at first because she looked legit; lab coat, etoh pads, sharps containers. The concern now is what exactly was contained in her syringes......

i heard about this a few days ago as i live in sw washington. Last i had heard, the police weren't sure if she was even a real nurse, and what exactly was in the injections, so if they at least have confirmed the flu vaccine was what was injected, that is something, but this nut needs to lose her license and at the very least be on house arrest, probabtion and community service.

Never heard of a person needing an MD order for a vaccine before. When I used to work in (legitimate!) flu shot clinics, no one came in with a physician's order, so I'm not sure where you were going with that? Is your state requiring an MD order for flu shots because of the shortage this year? (just wondering b/c mine is not...they question the public about how they meet the CDC guidelines, but you don't need an order).

You must have an order to give a flu shot just like any other medication/vaccination. You were working under a standing order probably signed by the physician the flu clinic hired to sign off on their orders.

I got my flu shot a Department of Health clinic without a doctors order. In Tx anyone (well this year if you are high risk) can get a flu shot, no doctors order needed. You can get them at HEB, Walgreen's, Eckard etc.
The people who are giving the shot are the ones who have obtained the doctor's order. I guarantee you that the Department of Health has a physician or medical director who has authorized the nurses to give the injections as well as the companies who are providing the shots at the drug stores. Those injections are given by authority of a standing order.
Sounds like a person with chronic bad judgement.
