Have you heard about her. She got flu vaccine from somewhere and was selling it in supermarkets. Wasn't she breaking a couple of laws and won't the BON in that state lift her license? :uhoh21: She scared the heck out of a lot of people when they found out she was not authorized. However, there is a even worse case where a person was giving them out on a college campus and the authorities can not even figure out who was giving the shots and what they were giving.
because she was acting alone...not represented and registered by a company/organization assigned to be vaccinating...those groups that set up clinics, they are covered by any lawsuit to give them, in otherwords, if someone goes into the line with a illness that a dr would not permit them to have one ( since it is not a live virus, most ppl would not fall under this) but, let say for the sake of sakes it was not recommended, and they withheld info and the pt became ill, these groups are not liable, but they could try to sue the vaccine manufacturer. This nurse was wrong!
Apparently she is a Canadian who "is not in good standing" with the RN association in British Columbia. She got a WA. state license while under review in Canada. They were just saying on the news that the vaccine was the real thing, but she didn't work with the company she said employed her.
If those patients needed a physicians order why were they flocking across the border for flu shots? In BC there is a public notice in the paper stating the "at risk groups" and if you fall into one of the groups you just show up for the shot. Health care workers qualify automatically, as do pregnant women in the third trimester who will deliver in "flu season".
Wacky... but even wackier, here in IL alot of people have been in an uproar about prisoners receiving the flu shots before the elderly & all others that NEED the shot.... I don't know if this story is even accurate, but if it is, I find it a shame.... I suppose the prisoners, get the shot, b/c the size of the facility & what not, but still... how about some respect for the people who haven't committed any crimes, or those toddlers susceptible to RSV & the like..
My thinking on prisoners getting flu shots is that those paying for the care of prisoners (taxpayers) would rather provide flu vaccines for them rather than pay for the hospitalization of any of the prisoners who might contract the flu & might wind up with pneumonia. Not to mention just the cost of having to deal with a bunch of sick prisoners, spreading the flu throughout their facility.
Not a perfect solution, but then, it's not a perfect world.
