I recently acquired the Nov 1948 issue of RN magazine. What a hoot. There's a section called "Science Shorts", here are two interesting entrys:
"If South African toads didn't cost $10 a piece, didn't need a diet of horse meat, and didn't need the facilities of aquaria to survive, patients could be informed within six to eight hours whether they were pregnant or not. Unlike the bunny, the toad does not have to be killed and can be used over and over. Too bad these imported toads require such an expensive upkeep in these days of inflation."
"A panel discussion on obesity, held at the New York Academy of Medicine, decided that overweight was almost entirely due to overeating with only one per cent of fat persons having glandular conditions which would account for overweight."
A RN commentary called "RN Speak"s: "Choose girls for training who have no sex appeal". Thought process is that if they have sex appeal they'll get married and quit working and there will be a nursing shortage.

Very interesting.
I wonder what they'll be saying about us 57 years from now? I'll be 107 y/o if I'm still alive. Wow, that's scary. Do you think robots will be doing most of our work by then? The technical stuff?

When I was in school, I remember reading an article from a nursing mag in 1978 which stated the ave RN salary was 8000/yr.

salary $200/month plus full maintenance
I think they're going to get the short end of the stick for what I'd make it cost to maintain me .
Yeah, full maintance now a days has a whole different meaning. And yes I wonder what did happen to the policy of not accepting girls for training with sex appeal?! Boy wouldn't that fly now a days, they would have their butts sued big time. Someone said "boy I'm glad I'm alive in 2005, I bet they'll be saying that in 2062 and they're reading the 2005 edition of RN Magazine. :rotfl:
HAHAHA... Yes our future nurses will be saying, "They actually did that?!?!?...and with their hands?!?!?!?!"
