RN job to administer flu shots

Published

Hi everyone! I am new to this website! I have my BSN in nursing and 4 years of work experience as an RN as well as a few years of work experience as a Medical Assistant prior to nursing school. I haven't been working for a year now because I have a baby and am doing graduate school (NP). I decided to start working a few hours a week because I have a relatively easy semester in the fall. I just got an interview for a corporate RN position to do flu shots. I am wondering how much would be the reasonable salary for such a job? Is $30-50/hr too much (considering the commute and gas)?

Thanks!!!

Welcome to Allnurses!

I would say yes, that's too much...by commute and gas do you mean that you'd be going to people's houses to do this? Also pay depends largely on where you live.

I wanted to add that some companies pay mileage as well.

I don't see them paying you more than $25-$30/hr. Some do not pay mileage. Ensure you know exactly what type of employee you are. Are they going to take the taxes out? Do you have a minimum you have to give? Do they offer any bonuses? What do you do in an emergency? Just things I would ask.

No way are you going to make $50/hr giving flu shots. Most flu shot RN positions in my area pay like $25-$28/hr.

Just curious where you are? Cause here where I am in the Midwest floor RNs were starting around $16 (at least the hospital with which I'm most familiar). So guessing your cost of living must be pretty high. :)

^Where I am in the midwest floor RN's start at about $29... I'm in a pretty major metropolitan area though.

Can you share what company you're doing vaccine administration with? I've been looking to get into something like this.

Depends on where you live of course, but here in NY I make 30$/hourly plus paid per injection that I give, Flu, TDAP etc. gas mileage reimbursement, tolls, parking etc. I'm considered an independent contractor so I pay taxes at the end of the year, or quarterly if you choose. I work with a mobile diagnostic company. I don't think your asking too much if your up in the North East.
