Just for fun lets just pretend the starting wage for an RN (regardless of education just RN) started at $11.00 hr. Would you still be a nurse? Also, what would be an acceptable starting pay for you to consider the field?. Ill start it off by saying no I would not at $11 hr (to much risk, slave wage for the type of job it is etc) and even though our starting pay around here is $27 hr for new grads I would work for about $20 hr. Be honest with you answers :)
WHAAT??? OH PLEASE!
I made more than twice that amount as an autoworker, no degree required. CNA's make more than $11/hr. If the starting wages were not at least $20+/hr I wouldn't even waste my time. I know bill collectors who make $20/hr and get performance bonuses on top of it with no degree at all. I think RN's are worth at least $30+/hr right out of school.
Um......HE** No!From the other threads I gather I am already at the top $$ scale across the country and i wouldn't work here for a penny less. ($69/hr per diem--one year exp.) I understand the whole cost of living issue but I'm already on record as saying I wouldn't continue to be a nurse for some of the wages out there if I were to move. I only graduated in 2005 and the hospital we did clinicals in--out of state--advertised for 15.65 hr. Fat chance! Too much grief and enormous responsibility.
In the cheapest area of the US--I think my bottom line would be min. $25 w/out differentials.
Where do you work? I'd move in a heart beat for this nurses heaven.
I make a lot more than that as an LPN, but that is with 15 years experience.
I would probably do it if the job were exactly what I wanted...hours, benefits, position, etc...but I would expect a raise in a short time. It would have the be the PERFECT job though.
I've been approached about taking a paramedic position for $8.50...ten 24-hour shifts a month, double time on holidays and weekends, triple time on holidays that fall on weekends, time and a half after 40 hours. The $$$ would almost be the same at the end of the year and since I do it for free now, it is very, very tempting.
No. I won't work for less than $32/hr and actually I need $40/hr ($41/hr current salary) to live comfortably. When I statrted in 95 I was paid $12.75/hr as a GN. $11/hr would be insulting to all who choose this field. The education required, stress, hours, responsibility, etc. qualifies us for much more than a pizza delivery boy's wage.
I started as an LVN in 2004 on a busy cardiac unit at $14.00 carrying my own patient load, starting IV's, doing IV pushes, starting and monitoring cardiac drips all on my own..........which is not far from $11.00 - only tolerated it for the experience, which was great because when I got my RN it was just initial changes behind my name!
