Just for fun lets just pretend the starting wage for an RN (regardless of education just RN) started at $11.00 hr. Would you still be a nurse? Also, what would be an acceptable starting pay for you to consider the field?. Ill start it off by saying no I would not at $11 hr (to much risk, slave wage for the type of job it is etc) and even though our starting pay around here is $27 hr for new grads I would work for about $20 hr. Be honest with you answers :)
For anything less, then $20 for maybe a probationary period for a new grad is insulting considering the current demand.
depends on the area. Small hospital, no place else to go will start a new grad at 18-20 ( close to my home)
areas with more opportunites for employment (2 hours away) start new grads at $24
with the amount of education, skill level, complex patient needs, responsibility and a never-ending need to keep our skill levels up, $11.00/hour would be unacceptable.
If anybody took this amount of pay for these responsibilities, then Nursing would stray away from being a profession and would be classified as just a job.
I make more then 15.00 an hour doing security work, so theres no way Id be an RN for 11.00 an hour. The biggest draw to me is 12 hour shifts lots of overtime availability and starting at 25+ an hour when I graduate. Otherwise Id probably stick with my initial choice of sports medicine. But then again same thing there I'm not going to work 60+ hours a week with the horrible hours in the training room and a Masters Degree for 30k a year.
