RN to BSN online

Published

In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.

One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.

The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.

Online Nursing Degree Programs at Thomas Edison State University

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

last year i was accepted to texas woman's university and texas tech for their online rn to bsn program but rights after i applied my mother got sick and i had to forget my school for a while and take care of her until she died in november.... after picking myself up off the ground i am ready to restart ..so i have reapplied to texas tech for the summer start class....anyone else applying for summer..i excited to finally get on with advancing my degree.....

Can't delete this post, only change the words. Sorry, my bad.

I am virtually ready to scream.

The nursing program I completed was an Associate in Applied Science degree in nursing (ADN-RN), I have been so frustrated trying to find a school that doesn't require a ton of prerequisites (i.e. speech, chemistry, and stats - all things I was not required to take to complete the program & degree).

Is there anyone else out there that has their A.A.S. in nursing and is in an RN-to-BSN program that is both affordable in terms of tuition cost as well as in terms of not requiring a ton of gen ed classes as prereq's?

I need help! Pulling my hair out! I am currently waiting to hear back from University of Wyoming. I am an IL resident with an IL RN license, and even Illinois State University, who has a great RN/BSN program, says I have to have COMPLETED speech, stats, and chem with a lab prior to admission - I can't even take them while enrolled in the nursing portion of the program.

Help please? I am slowly making my way through the hundreds of pages of this thread, so humor me if someone else has asked the same question... MUCH appreciation in advance to anyone who can offer some insight!

In the research I did, "inexpensive" and "not so many credits" seem to be mutually exclusive; it seems that students have to sacrifice one for the other. I was going to suggest U of Wyoming -- they seemed to be somewhere in the middle ground when I was researching. I ended up going with Chamberlain, which was the most expensive of the lot, but required the fewest number of credits for me -- just 32. Considering I was coming into the program with 206 credits already, that sounded fine to me! Besides, the other schools would have cost me about the same in the end -- more credits to take, but slightly less per credit hour.

Good luck in your search! I know it can be frustrating. I just about drove myself nuts before I settled on Chamberlain.

Yes, affordable is important but it's great to have a thread with links and info to any online RN/BSN program. I actually considered Drexels RN-MSN program but am taking a hard look at TESC for the BSN first.

Thanks for the input and congrats on the MSN.

I applied to Drexel's online RN to BSN. Anyone else?

Hi All -

This is a pretty old discussion, so I was looking for some recent experiences with reasonably-priced, online RN-BSN programs. Most of the postings I'm looking at here are several years old.

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who has recently finished an online RN-BSN degree.

Thank you.

Hi all! I just recently applied for Kaplan Universitys Rn to Bsn. I've heard pretty good things about them.

Hi Kelly,

I was wondering if you finished the program at Dundee and how it went.

I am also looking into online only RN to BSN and would like some info from people who are currently attending or recently attended/gradutated a program.

I got a really hard sell from University of Illinois - kind of turned me off of them.

Utica seems like a good program - less expensive than other too.

I have quite a few transfer credits - and will pretty much only need the actual nursing classes.

University of Phoenix is toooo expensive for me.

So can anyone out there help me out with some more current info?! :D

Do employers look down on people that get their BSN online over people that actually sat in a class?

I think if you choose an online program that's based at an established university you'll be fine. I'm in Drexel's online program, but when I graduate my diploma will say Drexel University, not Drexel University Online.

Honestly, with the amount of work that goes into online classes, I would think employers would look favorably on that. It takes a lot of focus and discipline to get through an online program because you don't have a physical classroom to go to. It's so easy to put things off simply by closing a web browser or turning your computer off.

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Help! I started Grand Canyon University RN to BSN in 1/10. Aced first class but way too many group powerpoint projects and 2nd class had even more, and they were not on things I thought were really useful to learn, more like busy work. Dropped 2nd class as my father is in ICU for one month, and I was changing jobs. Father still in ICU but now have a Sat,Sun, Mon job in home health and off rest of the time. Plenty of time to do school.

Waiting transcript eval from Jacksonville University, I have 128 credits but am sure they will find something basic I still need.

Talked to Drexel, did not feel real good about it and they do not start till fall. Have been advised to only go to place that has a real brick and Mortar college so degree with not say online! But then if I am in Tenn. and obviously working who is not going to be able to figure out it had to be online classes? Big goal is nurse practitioner, 2nd would be educator.

I am 53 and need to decide and do it, tried UoP years ago, no way , plus too$$$$. Need to live long enough to get some use out of degree! Any suggestions? Have 22 yrs exp, ADN, high GPA, and financial aid approved.

Thanks in advance
