RN to BSN online

Published

In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.

One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.

The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.

Online Nursing Degree Programs at Thomas Edison State University

Specializes in Psych, Informatics, Biostatistics.

I am doing Clarion's RN-BSN starting next week and only have to do 26 credits without any prerequisites. It's a PA state school; I think it's the best, but would like to know if anyone else has shopped around. I got calls from some, but none seemed to offer 26 credits at state prices.

Specializes in cardiac, oncology.

Is anyone here doing the online RN-BSN through Western Governors University? I really like the compentency units, so depending how are you work, you can complete more classes during the 6 months, and they charge a flat rate for the 6 months.

I would just like to here from anyone who attends, and what they think.

Thanks,

Kristy

I am a LPN, does this school offer something for me to persue my RN/

My friend was looking into this too, but I thought it was quite a bit of money and it wasn't encouraging that you wouldn't have to repeat courses. I was also concerned that it wasn't accredited by the NLN, although if you are going to go on in school some grad programs don't require the programs to be NLN certified, as long as you have the ccne accreditaion. Oh, I see that they do say that 'most' of your associate level courses should transfer in.

If you learn more about this school please let the board know-and I hope someone who has been there chimes in!

Hello out there, I am a "return to practice" RN and have been back to work for about a year. Looking for some feedback on Bernau University in Gainesville, Ga., or any other online programs done by RN's in Georgia. Georgia State has a campus but thinking I want to go the online route.

This is a great thread and now realize I need to read backwards instead of from the start. Thanks to everyone who participates.

Just an FYI....

I am currently doing the RN - BSN program at Liberty University and I love it! It is $250/cr hour, books seldom cost more than $50 per class, it is entirely online, I got full credit for all prior college credits and it runs on 6 week semesters. I started in January 2009 and will graduate this May. My only complaint is in how the classes are offered. I could have graduated by this December IF I had taken the classes in a different order, but I didn't know they weren't all offered every semester .

The course work is moderate, but I am able to work full time and get it done without missing my kids' events. Most of it is independent but I have had 2 classes where I had to do a group power point. There is no penalty for working ahead, so if you have something going on one week, you can do the assignments early and have it out of the way. It is a Baptist university, so 3 religion classes are required. This was not a problem for me.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know in case you are looking for a great, fast 7 affordable program!

Bonnie

PS: I was an LPN for 11 years, then graduated from Excelsior in 2007. I didn't think Excelsior was bad (except the CPNE), but now I see how hard it actually was compared to Liberty's program!!!

I don't think you will find any program for LPN to RN besides Excelsior or Indianna (but they are like Excelsior). It seems that there is a large gap in options for LPNs to advance!

Hello all,

I am considering Texas Tech RN to BSN...does anyone know:

Can this program be done completely online?

If clinicals are required, can they be done close to home?

Any mandatory appearances required at Texas Tech?

Thank you for any info --

Specializes in Infection Control, Employee Health & TB.

Yes, everything can be done online. They have an orientation session that is one & one-half days in Lubbock. From what I understand about their capstone (clinical) class, you build your professional portfolio that usually can be done from your place of employment. I was accepted to their Spring 2010 class & will attend orientation in December. I'm looking forward to getting more detailed information at the orientation. When were you going to apply?

Specializes in Public Health.

I was deciding between TESC and Drexel's RN-to-BSN program and ultimately decided on Drexel.

I happen to work for a company that has a partnership agreement with Drexel, so my per credit cost is reduced to $403/credit, which would normally run me $483/credit. TESC, while cheaper at $328/credit, was not significantly cheaper. TESC charges a rather ridiculous $300 credentialing fee, along with a $75 application fee. Drexel's application was free. To matriculate, I paid $100, which is applied to my first quarters' tuition.

I know there are fees each semester at any university, but TESC seemed to have increased per/credit costs specific to the nursing program, nearly 3 times that of the per credit cost of other undergraduate programs, an annual enrollment fee, a registration fee per course, and a technology fee.

I also Drexel because it's an established university and offers more courses online. It does require statistics and a science elective, which can only help if I decide to continue my education past my BSN.

This school sounds almost too good to be true. According to their catalog not only can you complete the program in 2 semesters..BUT TWO SUMMER sessions?! So you could graduate in May with an ADN, start this program in June and have your BSN three months later.... I must be reading this wrong.

although you can complete this program in 2- regular semesters... both of the summer sessions that are in the summer are counted as one semester. there is 15 hours to take in each semester and no college in their right mind is going to allow a student to take 15 hours per summer session ....when full time in the summer is considered 6 hours. this program is set up to be completed in either spring and summer or summer and fall....fall and spring...i actually was accepted last semester but my mother was sick and i had to care for her until she passed....
