In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.
One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.
The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.
Online Nursing Degree Programs at Thomas Edison State University
Slippery Rock University doesn't require general ed classes, and it's cheap!
i'm confused because the web site says that one of the admission requirements is 63 hours of general ed hours..am i just lost or something...

Did you take five classes a semester? How much computer time and off computer time did it take roughly? Daily hourly? Are there a lot of assignments and tests that are not done online? Do you really need the books? How much is the program if you take it in two semesters and live in TX? Thanks!!
I was wondering if anyone could give me more information on the FHCHS, UoW and Slippery Rock programs. My situation is that I'm 16 years old... I graduated a year early out of high school (I did virtual high school for my last year so I have no problem with online schooling) because I wanted to get a jump start on my nursing career (since I have the ultimate goal of being a CRNA). I have decided to attend community college and get my ADN because not only is it cheaper, but I am guarenteed admission (at little or no cost out of pocket). I really want to obtain my ADN (in less than 2 years- I plan to sign up for school in the Spring of 2010 attend Summer session of 2010, fall session of 2011 and then Spring session of 2011 and take my NCLEX be certified before Fall semester of 2011). I plan to attend an online program because I want to get a job at my local hospital (so I can gain the ICU experience I will need to apply to CRNA school... So while I get my working experience I want to do an RN-BSN program with either FHCHS, UoW or Slippery Rock. From all 50 pages of this thread I've read, I see that UofW is surely the cheapest of the three (but it has it's downfalls), then FHCHS and Slippery Rock as cost is concerned. The next thing I'm wondering is which is the shortest to complete? I'm really interested in a 12-18 month program (and I'm SURELY willing to double up credits/ classes if it guarantees I'll finish faster). My main goal is to complete school (REALLY learn about nursing, etc) and clinicals are not an issue at all. If anyone could provide personal experiences with either of those schools I would REALLY appreciate it, and thank you for taking the time to read this all! :)

Hi Nicole!
Wow congradulations on completing high school so quickly! :yeah:I greatly admire your determination and passion for the nursing field. We are lucky to have you! In regards to FHCHS, you will need to have sat for the NCLEX in order to be admitted into the online RN to BSN program. The program itself runs from 18-24 months depending on how many classes you take at once. 18 months is really only for people who are not working..and 24 mths is the more relaxed pace. What's really neat about FHCHS' curriculum is the few religion courses. They teach you how to treat the whole patient- regardless of their religious belief or practice. Some very useful skills to have in the field! Here is the program's website: http://onlinenursing.fhchs.edu
Good luck to you on your journey! :loveya:
You sound very motivated! I'm doing the Slippery Rock (SRU) program, but at a very leisurely pace compared to what you are planning. SRU is cheap at ~$800 for a 3-credit course. One of the reasons I chose it was because they didn't require additional general education courses. In contrast, U of Wyoming (which I also considered) requires you to take Wyoming history. I decided against FHCHS because of the religious aspect; also, they were very aggressive in trying to recruit me (such as calling me at home a few times, unrequested), and that turned me off. I think they are a for-profit school? I have had a pretty good experience with SRU; there have been a couple of professors who I was not impressed with. As far as the shortest to complete, look at the list of required courses, including any prerequisites and general ed courses, and count up the hours.
Why the big rush to get all the way through school so quickly? You're already ahead of the game, graduating from high school so early. Don't forget to enjoy yourself and experience life outside school. On the other hand, I think it's great you are so gung ho. You go, girl!
Hello, I just wanted to ask what are the requirements for the RN to BSN program. I just finished my AS in nursing(transition from LPN to RN) in Orlando. How often do you have to go to campus/clinicals? UCF requires a an AA, I don't have time to take more classes to do an AA if I don't have to. I'm just curious to know how often would I have to drive from Orlando to Tampa. How expensive was your first semester? I asppreciate your input. Thanks!

I am in my last course for RN-BSN online through University of Wyoming. I honestly don't know what their humanities requirements are (I already had at least 9 hrs. from my AA I had before entering nursing) but maybe I can give you a link that might help. I think UW is reasonably priced compare to lots of other schools, about $140/hr regardless of state you live in.
