Riverside Community College Nursing Spring 2014

Published

Hello everyone. I just wanted to start the thread for all the new applicants of RCC's Nursing Program for Spring 2014. This thread is to help each other stay current with old and new information about the program. Share your thoughts about the application process, teas V preparation, acceptance, and support group. Let the applications begin!!

@Tbotbo thanks for all the heads up! So far I just need to complete my second TB read on Monday and I'm done for all the health stuff required. Background/Drug test came out good. I did some comparing on the book bundles versus amazon, and it is actually cheaper buying the bundles with the discount code and stuff. Is there anything else aside from what was given to us in the book list that would help us for 1st semester?[/quote']

That's cool! We didn't have the bundle option. Everything you will need will be in your supply bag. The only thing I would recommend is to consider getting a better stethoscope if you can afford to. The one in the supply bag is pretty low quality. Almost everyone ended up getting a better one. I got a Littmann Classic II and it's worked bout really well. It was about $100 on amazon. Also get a tiny pocket sized notepad to have in clinical.

Hey guys!

Congratulations to those who have been accepted!! I just finished my third semester (Nursing 21) and so this Spring 2014 I will be starting my last semester! Woooop!! :roflmao:

Also, I am part of RCC SNO (Student Nurse's Organization) and we fundraise all year long. Please get involved, it will look great on your resume. I know a couple of you have questions regarding what stethoscopes or equipment you need. You are required to buy a "medical bag" which includes all of the essentials but the quality isn't great. We have a website from which we fundraise by selling different medical equipment that is great quality. I'll include the MDF website on here but if you have any questions please feel free to email me. Good luck and hope to meet you all very soon!

We had a date we needed to buy it by, and it was before priority registration. Priority registration is January 8-10. I would buy it as early as you can. I know it's super expensive. To be honest we hardly used it in NRN 11, but they want everyone to have it before starting. For the uniforms, the earlier you buy them the faster you get them. If you wait too long it could take up to a month to arrive after you order them. You can buy the supply kit later, as long as you have it before you start Skills lab. You don't need it to register. They ran out before my semester started and some people didn't have them the first couple weeks. If this happens you can share a stethoscope and bp cuff with someone until you get your bag. Those are really the only 2 things in there you need for the first couple weeks.

Which textbooks are we going to need for the first few weeks of the semester?

Thanks a lot for the info, I really appreciate it . (:

littmann's are really good!! I will get one than for sure! Thanks :)

Have they given you a reading list? In your intake packet it should have the first few weeks schedule with the assigned reading. I would just get all the books as soon as you can, but the majority of the lectures are based on the Taylor book.

Thank you everyone for the information. You all have been incredibly helpful.

Since there is plenty of time to get the books, I am trying to get some of them off of ebay. There are good deals on them.

That's the smartest thing to do. I bought my books at school and it was a fortune compared to what everyone else got online. The most important books are Taylor, Lewis, cherry and a good drug book for clinicals! I would get Mosby's Nursing drug reference! It's by far my favorite! Never had a problem with it. It even has Iv meds! But you'll eventually need a Iv book as well but don't worry about that now :) good luck!
