Riverside Community College Nursing Program Spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone!

I thought I would begin a thread for everyone applying to the nursing program at Riverside City College for the spring 2016. Hope we can share about our process here. :)

Currently, I'm finishing up my Anatomy/Physiology 2 and Sociology 100 at CSUSB. So far, I've been doing well, I think haha! If I finish with an A in sociology I'll have a 4.0 for my general eds and a 3.0 for my science gpa. After the spring quarter, I'll be studying for the TEAS exam for a little over a month and take the exam in July. Any advice that's related to the TEAS exam?

Hope we can begin this thread. Best wishes to everyone here!:up::)

Anyone feeling really confident and purchasing nursing school gear yet ?! Where my optimistic folk at  my Christmas list is practically all nursing related :nurse: lol plus all I watch is YouTube study tip videos and look up things for my future RN board on Pinterest :roflmao: don't judge me though!

I haven't started buying anything yet I'm totally guilty of looking up tons of things on pinterest! Its so exciting! :specs:

What types of things are you wanting to buy?? Lol I might hop on the train and start looking

Things I know for sure I will need to get like : Stethoscope, rolley backpack (lol I know I know but not about to mess up my back early in the nursing game !), laptop (got to take advantage of Black Friday), also a NCLEX study book I have read a lot about and most students wish they had purchased it in the beginning of nursing school because it would have helped them study better.. It's the Saunders comprehensive review (5th or 6th edition doesn't matter from what I read). It's really going to be a whole different way of studying and testing for nursing school so Im trying to prep myself for the change in gears.

im just gathering things little by little so its not so expensive come first semester.

Some advice for the incoming NRN 11 students !

-Don't buy a stethoscope right away. The one provided in the new skills bag is great! They used to be terrible but now they are awesome.

-If you cant afford all the books right away, just purchase Fundamentals, a drug book, the skills book. If I would have known that MOST (read 98%) of the test questions were coming out of the fundamentas book I probably wouldn't have gotten the rest.

-Most people have rolley backpacks, if they don't the first week they will the following. So if you are on the fence you should just get one. If you don't want one then thats ok too. Some peoplele hate them still.

-Do the prepU tests starting week 1. People that used these tests have gotten A's on their tests.

-Don't be discouraged when the way you think you are going to organize your stuff goes out the window day 1. They throw so much at you, and there are so many different assignments and skills labs and passports and it's really overwhelming. So it takes a bit to get organized. I found it helpful to split everything up by test. And in each test divider I had the corresponding weeks, and in the weeks I had different dividers splitting up seminars, from labs, etc.

-Let me know if you have any specific questions !

@lunalovegood25 : Holy moly thank you so much for the heads up ! Such a trip because I have been stalking previous threads and remember seeing your screen name at the beginning of your journey asking questions to those in the program currently and voila here you are helping us out. Thank you so much for paying it forward. :) How do you like the program so far ? I Have been accepted to another program but am waiting on this one since I hear so many good things about RCC's program and it has a great rep. Do you find it that this is true thus far ?
