Hello,
Is there anyone out there that has attended/graduated from Rio Salado's nursing programs? I would be interested in any opinions on the program as well as their general reputation. Thank you.

Hi,
I live in Fountain Hills and I am an LPN. Im thinking about doing the online nursing program. Have you heard anything about it? I still need Math, Chem and Micro. Any advice on good teachers for those classes?

I haven't looked into their nursing program, but I did most of my prereqs there. I love Rio salado. They are so organized, and the lesson objectives teach right to the tests, IMO. I bet their nursing program is good, they have a good rep for online education.
How many more prereqs do you need? I think I need Micro, Chem, and another Math class. Are you working as an LPN now? I have been an LPN for 5 years.

Hi All,
I currently am in block 3 at Glendale. Actually I am kind of sorry that I did not select Rio Salado for nursing. At Glendale, tests, films, lab time are done on your own time - not class time. Personally, sitting in class does not teach me anything I need to know to pass the tests. I devote hours upon hours studying at home. I would be better off at Rio since I am the type of learner that does best studying on their own.
The only disadvantage of Rio is that the blocks are set. For example, block 1 and 3 only start in the Fall 2005. I am off of that traditional pattern and need block 4 in Fall 2005 and they don't offer it then. I know some of the teachers at Rio in nursing and they are excellent. I recommend the Rio program.

I have just completed block one at Rio and am about to begin block two next week. I am a flight attendant and the online program allows me to continue working while going to school. I LOVE the program. I do feel like there is quite a bit more work, but it is worth it to be able to do it on my own time.

Are you getting any support from the teachers? I've taken several classes at RIo and just wonder how much more I would have gained being in a classroom. Do you know if they're beginning Blk 1 this spring? Also, when are clinicals done?
Thanks

That is a funny question!! Some of the teachers are great and others are of no help what so ever. We were just told that some of the instructors were being weeded out and if we ever had a problem to immediately contact the directors. I think that more than anything, you get out of the class what you put into it. If I need a question answered and am not getting a response from my instructor, I will take it above them. I, personally, haven't had much of a problem and received As in all of my block one courses including pathophys.

On the message boards at Rio I asked some of the students who are in the blocks and graduates if they had to wait to get in and how long. A few replied that it depends where your name is on the list, one said she waited three months and that was it. Another replied that she waited an entire year before she got in. They all said it depends when you apply and where your name is on the list. So, if their are a lot of students wanting to get in that particular season your kinda in a wait and see game. I think just about every where is like that though.
I'm a student at Rio. I have been taking Rio classes for a year now (part time 9-11credits) (housewife). I have gone to traditional classes (Mesa Community College) and online classes and I think Rio is great. I learn just as well at Rio and get just as much attention as I did with instructors at a traditional college. The only difference is I talk to them through email or telephone. Like anywhere else you have instructors who are intentive to their students or not. The only thing I am skipping out on and in my opinion saving time on is boring lectures. I skip the lecture talk and just read my textbook. Most of Rio's textbooks have CDs with them to help you study and learn more. They also give you a lot of websites to help you study a particular subject. They have all their lessons laid out before you and in every lesson they are very clear at pointing out to you what you need to study to help pass your midterm and finals. Most of the preqs classes all you need is a 60% on midterm and final to pass but there are a few that require a 73 or 75% to pass. Also I am not sure about the RN program but in the preqs classes study groups are not allowed. Now I talk to an administrator and she said once your in the RN program that you'll be reading 200 pages a week and required to have 75% on all your midterms and finals to pass the classes. I also spoke to her about clinicals and she said that for block 1 you do Saturday and Sunday (any shift). I can't remeber what she said about block two though. However, I remeber she said block 3-4 its Sat,Sun,Mon or Sun,Mon, Tuesdays. If you visit Rio's nursing program webpage it will give you all the hospitals they do clinicals at in Arizona.
If your looking for socialization, friends, and study groups Rio is not the school for you but otherwise I think its great. You just got to be true to yourself and your study schedule. Once you fall behind it is really hard to catchup esp for your finals. Good luck!

I'm considering Rio for nursing. I haven't been able to locate Rio's average NCLEX scores though. Does anyone have any idea? Even a rough idea?
