Rio Hondo College ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hey everyone! I thought I'd open this forum for those of us applying to Rio Hondo. Applications are right around the corner and it would be great to use this as a means of communication. Feel free to post, ask questions, or respond. I hope to hear from you!

@coo15 congratulations! that should be a good sign! May I ask what area you live around?

I have something coming from rio hondo in the mail today! Just checked informed delivery

Does it say when it will arrive at your house?

If it's on his/her informed delivery its arriving today. You can't see mail ahead of time, just what is being delivered that day.

Thank you! I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

I live in Garden Grove! My mail usually comes in around 5, but I’m working today and won’t be able to check until later, will update when I get home

I haven’t been able to open the letter, but from previous semesters it looks like they also send letters to applicants who weren’t qualified which could be the case for me for the reading requirement! Again, will update later

Hopefully it’s good news though! & what do you mean reading requirement?

I believe if you dont have a degree posted on your transcripts you had to take a reading assessment. Which is silly considering the TEAS should really tell you where you are in that but to each school their own I guess.

Oh wow I didn’t know that part, I thought that by having English 101 that would be enough for that.

From the website (had to look it up to be sure)

Reading Proficiency- met through: Multi-criteria approval from a counselor, OR, passing appropriate assessment test or course at Rio Hondo College, OR, have a 2 year or 4 year degree from a regionally accredited institution

I learned that lesson the first time I applied. I received a letter that I hadn't been accepted because I hadn't completed their reading proficiency test and did not have a degree posted.

Does anyone know if they’ll credit the reading class if you took it from another community college? I havent met a counselor to approve it I just turned in my application and I guess I missed that part
