First off they have the RUDEST operators on the face of the EARTH.
I was calling because I still don't have my license ## ( although my friend who took NCLEX 2 days after me has hers)....and anyway I can't start to work until I have it.
So first the operator tries to tell me I can't work with out it ( duh! that's why I am calling) and THEN proceeds to tell me that she won't transfer me to the correct person to ask because I am being to impatient. I'm sorry- a simple inquiry into a license that I EARNED is not " too impatient" on my end and all I did was ask to speak to the person who would be able to help me.
Then after I proceed to tell her that I would like to speak to said person anyway regarding MY LICENSE she tells me " You don't HAVE ONE YET" and then HUNG UP ON ME!!!!!!!!!!
I just sat there staring at the phone FOR-EVER.
Good grief what a way to treat the nurses they claim they so DESPERATELY NEED.

While I do not excuse the operator's behavior (especially the part about not transferring you because you're being impatient), I have to play Devil's Advocate here:
Is it at all possible that you were perhaps not as polite as you remember being?
I am a very polite person. All I did was ask her if she could direct me to the correct person as their automated service doesn't have that option for why i was calling. Trust me...I was completely flabbergasted. She barely let me get a word in edge wise and then when I was able to she was just flat out R-U-D-E.
Okay, just pointing out a possibility.

That is just ridiculous! I'm not big on getting all uppity but I would call again, get the person's name just in case and if treated the same way I'd make a formal complaint until someone took notice. :angryfire
Well I called back near the end of the day in hopes of getting someone else..lol..but no I got the same operator..who again was just impossible to deal with- who knows maybe the train them to try to deter people from actually speaking to them ( kidding)...but after literally almost begging her..she finally transferred me to the phone line of the woman I need to talk to..only her voicemail box was full .....lol....but I was able to catch her name and looked on the MBON website and found her email so I shot her off an email. If I don't have an answer or a license ## by the end of next week I am just going to go up there in person.

If you have never physically been to the MBON on patterson ave, this field trip is worth it to open your eyes as to why the staff is like it is at the MBON. The phone conversation you had is probably one of the milder instances of rudeness when dealing with the board. After having to visit the Board a couple of years ago for a problem with my S.O.'s license (We could get nowhere with phone calls), I now do everything I can to avoid interaction with them.
I live in Texas now and I will tell you the service is MUCH better here, even if they are a more strict board.
Do as much as you can online and never let your license lapse. (You can verify your license online and get the information faster than calling the board.)

That's exactly why there is a desperate need for nurses- because nurses are treated like this all the time, by everyone from docs, CNAs, other nurses, managers, pts, families, etc.
Nurses get fed up, and get out of nursing.

Agree, have called them myself...and maybe I got the same clerk that helped you. :-(
The only way that I could get my question answered ACCURATELY was go on the boards website & I emailed 2 different names that deemed appropriate for my question. I heard from both of them in a few days.

presuming you live in maryland, call your state reps office, did that once. cleared up the issue in less than a day....good luck
p.s. not meaning that I live in md. but that you would need to live in the state of the board you were dealing with, lol

BoonersMom go and look up your name on the web site, if you go further it should show that you passed the nclex along with all the other requirements needed. The one thing that I can think of that might be delaying your number is the back ground check. They will wait until they have your back ground check results before giving you a license number. Good luck and if you don't get any response to your e-mail go in person. I don't know of anyone that managed to get a problem resolved with them over the phone.

Y'know ... If the Maryland BON really is that bad, maybe your state reprentatives could help spur some improvements. There are a lot of nurses/voters and local representatives being asked to deal with the nursing shortage might like to hear from you all about the problems that this state agency (the BON) is causing.
If multiple reprentatives were to hear from multiple constituents, they could put a little pressure on the BON to improve their customer service.
Just a thought ...
