Respiratory Assessment: Put your thinking caps on!

Published

This is a neat site. I plan to do it later. I have a doctors appt in 30 minutes. I didn't want to lose the link so here it is: http://mtsu32.mtsu.edu:11019/cases/shipp.html

I can't find any answers but I think we can discuss what the answers should be.

Was it only me or did 4 and 5 sound like a whale? :)

That is really cool. But, at least 8 visual signs, wow. Let's just say that I didn't count 8. :uhoh3: Did many find eight?

I got for the visual signs:

1. anxiety

2. cyanosis

3. accessory muscle use

4. JVD

5. tripoding

6. pursed lips

Anyone have trouble playing all the lung sounds. I could only get the first 3. Sounds like crackles at the 3rd sound and Pleural friction rub the first 2.

I got up to the 4th breath sound, when my computer said it couldn't play it. Grrr. I was having fun, too.

Anyhow, these are my 8:

1. Grimacing

2. Blue lips

3. Pursed-lip breathing

4. Orthopneic position

5. Neck retractions

6. Sternal retractions

7. Thin physique

8. Loosened clothing

What do you think?

I thought:

1. Pursed lip breathing

2. Tripod position

3. Cyanosis

4. Retractions

5. JVD

6. Use of accessory muscles

7. Anxiety (by the look on his face)

8. Unbuttoned pants (to give more room for movement)

It did sound like he had a rub in one area and it almost sounded like he had a heart murmur too. It wouldn't let me submit it though :( I was really bummed because I wanted to know the answers!!

Those are the same 8 I got. I haven't gotten to the audio yet, busy cooking dinner.
