Respect the letters

I worked my butt off in Nursing school. I really did my best. I never worked in this field before becoming a nurse so basic nursing things weren't so basic to me. I really worked hard. I passed NCLEX first try 85 questions and graduated from school with a 3.0. Only for people to now say "are you an RN or LPN"? Then when I say LPN they look at me like I'm dumb. Everytime a friend , family member says congrats on becoming a nurse they say are you an RN or LPN. I was even told at my job by another nurse that I need to listen to her because she's an RN and I'm just an LPN. It really hurts my feelings that we are not respected as nurses. I was adevised by an RN student that LPNS don't give medications...I looked at her like what and quickly educated her. I try to ask her if she needs help with studying as she is in her first semester and she says no to the nursing classes that she is struggling in because I'm an LPN. She did allow me to help her write an English paper which she achieved a 93 on but the nursing classes she won't accept help. What's everyone's deal about LPNs?

To respond to your initial inquiry- I've worked as a CNA, EMT, LPN and currently, am an RN.

And yes, I've experienced condescending people. However, they were unpleasant people in general, not just to me, to everyone.

I've found that if I do my job well- whatever my job was at the time, I don't have a problem with my coworkers.

Oh, one more thing- you have to give respect to get respect. From reading some of your responses, I'm not quite sure that's a concept you're familiar with.

Yes, please let's just stick to the initial topic. Your post is greatly appreciated

WOW fellow nurses no comments and only 1 like but alot of views. So no one has experienced what I am talking about???? I find that very hard to believe
Nope. My experience differed from yours. My four years as an LVN were reasonably good and formed the foundation for the remainder of my nursing career. I was not made to feel less than anyone else on the nursing hierarchy.

I'm confused why you are even responding then . Lol people who have experienced this...lol..funny nurses on here love conflict and to bicker over a innocent topic...lol you can relate but you comment ...lol why???? Now what's wrong with you???? Lol

In my expereince, most patients don't measure nurses by their PN or RN designations, they measure nurses by their attitudes and personality traits and prefer nurses who are motivated, conscientious and intelligent.

Based on reading the original post, I'm surprised your friend got a 93% on that English paper. Frankly, you come across here as a bit childish and unsophisticated.

I measure my colleagues this way, it is actually pretty common for staff to measure colleagues by personality traits not by designations.
