I am pondering an offer from Methodist Hospital in Dallas and wondered if someone could help me. I have heard good and bad about the hospital and wanted to get some opinions. I have been offered a position at a substantial increase from what I am now earning in Florida. I want to leave Florida but do not want to make the wrong move.
I have also heard a lot of bad things about the neighborhood that the hospital is located in.
Can someone give me some insight.
Thank you:redbeathe

I know of someone who got hired as a GN (graduate nurse) at Methodist Dallas, and ended up quitting after 3 months. She said this hospital has some issues.
It is located in South Dallas, south of the Trinity River. In Dallas, the general rule of thumb is to live north of the Trinity River. Some of the residential areas located south of the river have less desirability.
Did the nurse ever elaborate on the issues? I know that as a GN one can be overwhelmed. I have read some posts on this facility which is why I asked. I am not visiting the hospital beforehand so I am trying to get as much info as possible. I appreciate your input. It helps.

I can't say I know much about Methodist in particular, but the area in which it is located is in a very good part of Oak Cliff. It is beautiful and near the Bishop Arts District and Kessler Park. Lots of unique shops and restaurants, and nice houses.

Hi there xdriggs,
Methodist Hospital Dallas is actually in an extremely nice neighborhood that is bordered by some not so nice areas, but there are multi-million dollar homes for sale, blocks from the hospital. I have lived in Oak Cliff for more than a decade and love it. It's close to downtown, I can walk to the light rail, not very many chain restaurants, Victorian era homes as well as mid-century modern, lots of character. To each his own, I suppose.
I can't speak to the hospital but the neighborhood is not as bad as some would say.

I have done clinicals at Methodist and it is a beautiful hospital! the campus is lovely. the surrounding neighborhoods may not be the best.
Hey Commuter! congrats on your latest educational venture! Go you! I'm finally graduating in January!
Update:
I took the position and unfortunately regretted it. I will be leaving the position after only a little over 2 weeks. If I don't I will probably be asked to leave. I have never experienced anything like this before and sincerely hope I don't again. One thing I learned is that if something seems too good to be true it most likely is. Too bad:o

Wow- only two weeks?
What happened?
Yes- make sure you have another job before quitting. Due to what The Commuter said.
I appreciate what you are saying, however, I don't think I am going to have any choice on the matter. It is either resign or be let go.
