Is it fair for the media to blame the RN in Texas for contracting Ebola?
The nurse's family shared her information with local media outlets. No HIPAA violation... Not to say a bunch of other stuff hasn't gone wrong.

2 Field Trips..1 Day...1Nurse
Hiya! I don't know about charter schools and the requirements for having trained unlicensed personnel caring for your students but because these would be licensed RNs (I would assume) you would not be delegating. They would be operating under their own license.

Happy School Nurses day
Happy school nurse's day to all y'all! I feel a little bummed because no one has said a single word about SND at my school but everyone has been celebrating teacher's week, all week! I'll have my little pity party over here. *pout*

2013 Camp
I am a school nurse doing her first summer camp gig! I'll be travelling with my son from Texas to eastern PA. This will be the first summer he will be old enough to go to camp. Found the job on the ACN website. We are both looking forward to the experience.

Scared straight- new to school nursing
Thanks SchoolNurse! I, too, have just accepted a position as a school nurse -- in a large urban school district in Texas. I am nervous and excited. I am bracing myself for a little craziness over the next couple of years. Fortunately, I will be working with a close friend who teaches there and the nurse at a nearby school has offered to be a resource (and emotional support).

HELP! News might want to interview me!!!!
Maybe you could refer the news organization to some of your classmates who didn't find employment, with their permission. They won't have the same employer issues as you do and the news would get their story. I don't think schools would want to advertise that their graduates aren't finding employment. They wouldn't want to cooperate or give information that would compromise enrollment.

moving fron austin to dallas
I believe that the cost of living (especially for real estate -- renting or buying) is much, much lower in Dallas than Austin. That will be a big factor in your equation. Michele

Any mothers in nursing school with preschool-age children?
I have also recently graduated (May) and my son will be turning 4 next month. I was fortunate enough to have my mother offer to help with childcare from the very start, and for that I am eternally grateful. But, there were times when she was thinking she may need to go back to work (with the economy and my dad losing his job). I started checking into whether or not any classmates had children my son's age. I thought maybe they would be interested in doing a type of child care swap for clinicals and during study sessions. I imagined the added benefit of children being able to entertain one another a little better than being alone. I didn't end up needing to do it but it might be an option for you. Best of luck to you! Am I asking for the impossible??
Hi Mommyof3Boys, DFW is Dallas/Ft. Worth. My neck of the woods. I'll second SaphiraTX, the hill country is beautiful, you should visit and see for yourself! :) Travel an hour west of Austin too. Anywhere along 281, on down to San Antonio. This area is about 3 hours to the Gulf of Mexico: Galveston, Port Aransas, Corpus Christi, etc. But the chain of lakes might give you enough water to fulfill that "ocean" craving. Best of luck with your decision. Michele

El Centro 3rd semester
There should be some Tegritys out there soon, the quality in sound is terrible and they are a bit tough to sit through for a couple of reasons, unless they redid them. What are the chances of that? :) The patho is a great idea, but if you read and retain the reading, you should do great! And good call on the program -- I've had to grow a thicker skin because of it, which can only help in this career! The disorganization has been a little disappointing, but from what I understand, is common in nursing schools.

El Centro 3rd semester
Hi ProudRN2B, Just finished 3rd and it WAS tough. Read all you can because the lectures don't cover half of it like they did the first two semesters. The first test was the toughest because it blindsided everyone. Good luck! and lgtx3 -- I don't have enough knowledge about the BHC program to compare it with ECC. I just know the accelerated aspect was appealing. I didn't think I could swing the courseload, clinicals, AND a three-year-old. :)

Relocating To Dallas
Yes, good luck xdriggs. Are you staying in the area?

Relocating To Dallas
Hi there xdriggs, Methodist Hospital Dallas is actually in an extremely nice neighborhood that is bordered by some not so nice areas, but there are multi-million dollar homes for sale, blocks from the hospital. I have lived in Oak Cliff for more than a decade and love it. It's close to downtown, I can walk to the light rail, not very many chain restaurants, Victorian era homes as well as mid-century modern, lots of character. To each his own, I suppose. I can't speak to the hospital but the neighborhood is not as bad as some would say. Michele

El Centro/North Lake - Fall 08
Hi, I have skills lab tomorrow. I'm interested in how everyones' day went too. 1day2010, If you want to give out your email address I have turned the file into a pdf. That may help you out. It was a Word doc. Oh and Billie, yes I am freaking out about the amount of material covered on the first exam. My cousin is getting married in Austin the 6th of Sept and I am wondering if I shouldn't be going now. Michele
