Rejection/Waitlist

Published

For those who have been placed on a waitlist or rejected after applying to nursing school what did you do to pass time or prepare yourself to reapply?

Do you just wait, take additional courses, apply elsewhere...etc?

Upon completion of my MA in Public Admin I plan to finish up the necessary prereqs and then apply; however, I want to make sure I have a "Plan B" just in case because the program I plan to apply for is VERY competitive...just like everywhere else.:uhoh3:

Thanks to those who respond

It was ugly. I didn't come out of my room for a week except to go to the BR and fridge.

Then I got MAD. After being told I was a shoe in I got real mad. I took some classes in forensics because I'm interested in becoming a SANE nurse after graduation, I took some pre law classes(continuing my prior education) and took some classes that would count towards my BSN. I took a full load to keep me busy.

It certainly helped. I come out of my bedroom and I'm not mad anymore. I'm actually ahead of other ASN students because I have only a few classes left for BSN. You might check out becoming a patient care assistant, they are able to perform more duties than CNA's. Check with your state. In Indiana, they can insert foley's, perform EKG's, blood draws, etc. It would be beneficial when you do get into clinicals.

IF that happens to me, I will start taking pre-requisites for the BSN. Getting a few of them out of the way and maybe working part time will just help me make the RIGHT decision after I finish my RN. ;) I know after finishing that I will be tired, but if I had 4-6 of them out of the way, I think I would be just a little more motivated to go all the way when the time comes.

Good luck!!!

I totally understand where you all are coming from - I have been there!! This is pretty long, sorry!! :)

I first was put on my school's wait list in November of 2002. Back then, once you got towards the top of the wait list, they sent you a letter to call and schedule an interview, and then they would accept about 80% of the interviewees, the rest got put back on the list to get another interview the next year. I finally got my letter in March of 2004, but I was very pregnant, so I talked w/ the head of our nursing dept., and she said if I forfeited my spot for Fall 2004, I would definitely get in the next fall. Meanwhile, I had been going to school part time since I had been put on the wait list. Well, in the Summer of 2004, they overhauled our admissions process, and scrapped the old list of students (of which I was now on top), and made a new one that only students who had finished 1/2 of their science pre-reqs (amongst other things) could get on. I was 1/2 way through the class that would get me on, but by the time I finished, enough people had gotten ahead of me that I was put back to the 2007 class!!! I was so upset, I had waited so long!! The only good thing was that you were guaranteed a spot in that class, no more interviews or anything. Anyway, enough people dropped out ahead of me that I start school in 1 week, 1 day, 21 hours, and 46 minutes!!! Waiting sucks, but it is so worth it, and you will get through it too. (Although I wouldn't have believed anyone 2 years ago!!)

Wow. What a tough break. I am happy that it is finally happening for you. Good luck!!!:balloons:

congrads on getting in.

If you end up on the waiting list I think hat you definiely should write letters to other area schools and ask to be considered for placement on their waiting list. I think it shows to the ether that you are serious about admission and it will help you gain admission. (This worked for me!)

I'm trying to get some of my BSN bridge classes out of the way. Who knows, I may be able to just start the BSN program if this keeps up!

My advice would be to maintain contact with the admissions coordinator.

And not to be afraid to ask for constructive feedback on your application if it is available.

Sounds crazy, but I really wouldn't put up with anyone offering "gentle" advice. Get the nitty-gritty and you can focus on what might be potentially holding you back. Its your career, be assertive.

this sounds familiar, i just got my "thanks for your application but unfortunatly....." letter last week, that SUCKS! like everyone else i cried. my husband is in the army and and about a year and a half ago we were in el paso and i got accepted there but we had to move out here to california and OF COURSE the pre reqs are different here so i had to take extra classes and i just got that stupid letter, unfortunatly i am tired of waiting, i have taken all the classes i need, so i have decided to go to a private school ( concord) it will cost me $23,000 to get my LVN but i am tired of waiting and i will just go back to school for the lvn-rn program. it is so hard to get into nursing school and i dont want to wait around anymore

hopefully you dont have to wait too much longer

good luck :)

I have applied to an LPN program at a local community college. I also found out the bridge for LPN-RN is not competitive so I've decided to go that route. The unfortunate thing is...those who are book smart do not always make good nurses and some of the best nurses were NOT book smart...but they did things hands on much better. Although I'd say I'm average when it comes to hitting the books, I rock with hands on stuff and can't wait to get started. Head up.

hey y'all!!!

i'm just starting my first semester of school for my lpn pre-reqs. if all goes well, i should be done in a little over a year. i am actaully anticipating the waitlist (sounds strange huh). i do really want to be a nurse and help people but i am also an activist and while i am on the waiting list i will continue my life as a radical. before i decided to start school i was a tree-sitter (one who lives in ancient redwoods to keep them from being cut down) and i had to leave that life behind to start school. so when i am on the waiting list i am going to do what i love and help people as an activist before i get accepted to school. my plan is to go down and live with the navajo indians in arizona and help them herd there sheep for the years i am waiting. i am probaly the only potential nurse who is actaually looking forward to the wait list. i am in no hurry to get this done. god will make it happen as it is meant to.
