Rejection/Waitlist

For those who have been placed on a waitlist or rejected after applying to nursing school what did you do to pass time or prepare yourself to reapply?

Do you just wait, take additional courses, apply elsewhere...etc?

Upon completion of my MA in Public Admin I plan to finish up the necessary prereqs and then apply; however, I want to make sure I have a "Plan B" just in case because the program I plan to apply for is VERY competitive...just like everywhere else.:uhoh3:

Thanks to those who respond

I added extra courses when waiting--it all depends on where you want to go after the program. I want my MSN so I always have extra classes on the back burner I can take. GL! :) I hope you get in right away!

Call the school and try to find out exactly where you are on the wait list, and plan accordingly. If you are fairly up there, chances are you may get a call. So many seem to drop out the first week, or have applied to other school, that the inital candidates offered spots may not all accept.

In the meantime, if you are interested in pursuing an advanced nursing degree, start taking your science courses or general ed you will need for a BSN. Medical terminology was a great course to take to learn the terms before starting nursing school. And if you have not yet completed all the courses you can from the nursing curriculum where you applied, try to take those courses, like A&P, Micro, Psych, etc. ou may also inquire with the nursing department and see if they will allow you to take Pharmacology without being in the program.

Good luck!

What did I do...well first, I cried and did retail therapy and ate lots of pie. ;) Then I took a part time cna job and signed up for summer chemistry. Those two things make me eligible for another program nearby and I could be starting next March.

The cna job, much as I didn't want to do it, has given me some good hands-on confidence, and I'm learning to get a thick skin with workplace politics too.

I was glad I already had a plan b typed up, when the rejection letter came.

Life is all about plan b's!

Good luck to you.

Hi, I am one of you! ;) I was rejected for this Fall but put in a pool of applicants to be re-evaluated for the class that starts January 07.

To pass the time I am continuing to work part-time and taking care of my family. I am also going to school part-time this Fall. I am enrolled in a course necessary for Clinical (but does not count toward admission points) and a pre-req for a RN-BSN bridge program that has caught my interest.

I do not have many classes to take for the BSN-RN bridge since I have a BA degree and a Masters and could probably finish them all up along with my clinical ADN courses. However given this opportunity (yes, that is my positive spin on my situation) to not start Clinicals, I prefer to get them out the way right now. I know people who take them along with Clinicals and I hear it can be too much.

I am not going to apply to another school if I am rejected again because the other schools are either too far or not as good! Plus, my school also has a current agreement with the local University's bridge program and so my chances of being selected are high upon graduation then if I choose a different school.

Therefore, if I am rejected again (in a few months) I plan to continue to work and take care of my family as well as use Spring Semester 07 to finish the rest of my RN-BSN bridge pre-reqs. I will also re-apply and wait for admissions for the class that starts Fall 07.

I think I will be admitted into the class that starts Fall 07 if I am rejected for the class that starts January 07. I will max out points in several categories unlike many applicants. So, I cannot imagine I will lose out next Fall if I do not make it this Spring. Good luck to all of you!

after lots of crying...

you get up and try again.

in the mean time. i have taken classes that will fullfill for a bsn, while also reapplying for a adn admission. this past semester and this summer i had to take several different classes at different campuses, so i can apply to several different schools this round.

i have my fingers crossed that i will be accepted this time around.

round 3 begin: ding, ding

1. I cried for about 1 day

2. I faxed my application for this spring

3. I applied to 2 other schools AND an LPN program so that I can get the ball rolling by this Jan...the LPN-RN programs are definitely NOT COMPETITIVE compared to direct entry RN and BSN programs. And I am retaking a few classes that will affect my LONG TERM goals of possible CRNA.

I'm on the waiting list at two schools and my number wasn't chosen at the others. I'll reapply, but while I wait I'm taking pharmacology and a medical terminology course this fall. If I'm one of the unlucky ones who take 5 years to get into a program, I'll get certified in phlebotomy while I wait...

Waiting, waiting and more waiting

I went to Hayward WI and fished.

I'm an alternate. The school excepts 22 out of ~150 applicants. I have until the 21st of this month to get a phone call. Nothing yet.

In case I don't get into the fall sem. I retook a summer interim soc class that I got a C in; it's an A now.

I definitely think I should have taken some classes over the summer to keep me occupied. My job is super boring (in fact, 5 hours have passed and I've gotten 2 phone calls) it really is the perfect job to work full time and got to school full time with. So now I just have to get the school thing going. My hospital is negotiating a contract with the local comm college I go to that will allow a certain number of employees to get in to this springs semester. Either way, I believe I'll be starting an LPN program worst case scenario and I'll be done with that in a year and bridging immediately after. 2 years is 2 years in my mind.

Specializes in starting pn school this fall!!.

I was put on the waiting list last year for the LPN program and ultamitly did not get in so I took a few of the pre-req's for the RN program that I plan on bridging into after LPN anyways. I re-applied this year and was again put on the waiting list, this time I really wanted to give up! But I recieved another letter a few weeks later saying a spot opened up for me.

I signed a letter of intent for the program that starts in Spring '07. I have a feeling I will not get it though. But I think that might be good, because then i can take the science pre-reqs at a better pace and set myself up well for acceptance in Fall '07. Plus, the program that starts in the Spring is for evening courses. I figured I could keep my day job. But I have a very stressful day job and reading the stories of how hard the nursing courses are, I'm thinking I may need to find a different job while I go to classes. I'm now thinking I could go to class during the day, and get an evening job at one of the nearby hospitals so I can get acclimated to the healthcare environment.
