Hi all! I recently had a job interview for a nurse tech position. When I applied online it said that candidates were required to be a student in good standing in a baccalaureate or diploma nursing program. I went on my first interview at a hospital with an HR representative who told me it was fine that I was enrolled in an associates degree program as long as I was pursuing my BSN after. She set me up with a second interview with a unit manager that went well. Every thing seemed promising until I followed up and was told that since I'm enrolled in an ADN program they couldn't offer me the position. She also told me to contact her once I graduate and enroll in a BSN program. How could I get an ok for my degree program and later be rejected for it? I have emailed her back just to clarify but have not received any feedback.

Short answer: Because somebody misunderstood the requirements for the position and gave you erroneous information-- one way or the other. See what they give you for a clarification.
Bachelor's or "diploma" program? ASN isn't even mentioned there. Might it be because you haven't yet had any clinicals in your program?
Wait-- "RN_NY," you're already an RN? (If not, it's illegal to call yourself one. You might not know that, but it's true. You can change your posting name easily.)

It happened to me when I was pursuing a nurse extern position within my current place of employment, HR would not even talk to me even though I had been working as a tech for 6 years there. My manager told me not to worry and when I graduated and passed the NCLEX-RN I was offered a position within the ICU.

Similar thing happened to me. Based upon the catalog info (there were no websites in those days) I enrolled in an entire course of study and spent hundreds on the texts. All eager I was on the first day of class. They quickly bounced me and said they didn't care what the published course requirements said.

But you're already an RN, right? Because your username sure says that you are.
If you are not, you need to change your username. It is against the TOS to identify yourself as a nurse without actually being a nurse.

You are not. So why did you go ahead and apply?
HR representatives make mistakes every day of the week. The unit manager simply clarified the requirements. No interview is ever wasted.. use it for the future.
Thanks for your feedback. I am not an RN yet so I changed my username right away. I had no idea it was illegal, I'm so embarrassed!
The HR representative mentioned that they require all their nurses to have a BSN so I'm assuming that is why I was rejected for the tech position. I have completed my first clinical rotation last semester.
After doing a little research after reading the responses here I see that a Diploma program and associates program is similar in length but not the same thing. My mistake.

Many diploma programs are a year longer with more clinical hours

OP,
This is yet again the biggest bunch of bull I've heard lately.
Why didn't this person cut to the chase and tell you they have applicants out the ying-yang without wasting her time and yours.
This is called toying with you and for cries sake your not applying for the brain sugery gig.
