Registration with NMC

Is it true that if you're trained in the U.S. as a RN with that first obtained your ASN then obtained your BSN online, you're not eligible to work as a nurse in the UK?

This is something that you need to ask the NMC, You need to meet the same clinical and theory hours (or near it) as the UK nurses go through in their training.

Hi... I was just wondering if you can clear up my confusion... I'm a registered nurse in the Philippines and I'm currently studying here in the UK in a university... bsc (Hons) degree and trying for the PSW after because I think its removal will be implemented on 2012. Anyway I'm trying to go for the NMC registration but the thing is, I only have 7 month pre-registration nursing exp and 7 months post-registration nursing experience... I know the NMC requires 12 months post-registration experience but the thing is I've been hearing from my friends and co-workers here that some of them and some of their friends got received their decision letter from the NMC even though they have the same experience as me. They're post-registration experience is below 12 months but they've added the clinical experience they had before they were officially registered. They've advise me to apply to NMC and who knows maybe they'll approve mine to... Can you give me advise regarding this??? thank you very much!!!

Only the NMC can make the decision once they have your application and assess what you have put down

hi. i just want to ask if The Uk has stop hiring nurses from overseas like the Philippines..please help ..or if you know other agencies that can help sponsor me.. presently I am processing my NMC on my own and I have 3 years of hospital experience.

outside the two subspecialities which remain on the Shortage occupations list you would have to be an exceptional candidate ( and better than any EU or existing work permit holder) to get tier 2 sponsorship .

I have my application pack sent to me last week. One of the forms require my employer/supervisor to fill it out and send it to the. Does this mean this form should be sent separately and not along with the rest of my documents?

I suppose you mean, the second application pack. I suppose you could send the other documents to NMC while the other forms will be sent to them by the University where you had your degree, the registering body in your home country and the employers where you actually worked as a RN.

Yes, i'm talking about the 2nd application pack, the one I received after I paid the 140 application fee. I'm just worried that if I leave it to them to send it to the NMC, it won't get to them on time.

Just a word of caution - many trusts are in a financial mess at present, and are not exactly proactive in processing nurses from their ONPs.

THhey will employ you are as a HCA, (CNA), probably at a Band 3 or 4, while they process your papers and send them to the NMC.

But this seems to take anywhere from 7-12 months at present, they are happy for you to remain on Band 3 as it costs them less.

Please do NOT commit to a mortgage, loan, or any other expense on the assumption that you will soon be a Band 5 or 6.

You won't.

Maybe next year.

Expect to be a Band 3 for 12-18 months, and then you will not get caught out financially.

Hi, can't you go to that university where you did your degree and get someone in authority to sign off the documents, so that you don't have to wait a long time? Anyway, from what i know, the NMC will send you a letter to say that there are forms pending that need follow up by the applicant. As you may be aware of, the NMC gives 6 months time to complete the requirements and if you think you are near that 6 months and the requirements are not completed as expected, then probably you could write to the NMC and request for an extension. From what I understand, they give just ONE extension to complete the applications.

Cross fingers for whatever you do.

I collected all my documents and references and sent them in one pack with the rest of my paperwork. Haven't heard that they had any problem with that, and my file is currently in decision.

I have a question... I'm a British citizen who studied and worked as a nurse in the Philippines. I already worked as an ER nurse here in the Manila. I am about to take my IELTS so that I can register in the NMC. My question is... will it be easy to find a university/hospital where I could have my ONP? I'm a little worried that when we move back to England this March, I would have a hard time looking for a centre or hospital for the ONP which means I wouldn't be able to work as a nurse in UK... please shed some light on this. Thank you so much! :)
