Registration with NMC

Hello there !

Do you now how long it's normally takes to get registered as a nurse to MNC after all your documents have been sent ?

I am interested in traveling to the UK and was wondering what the process is to be able to practice over there if I have been practicing as an RN in the US. Any Ideas?

I have a question... I'm a British citizen who studied and worked as a nurse in the Philippines. I already worked as an ER nurse here in the Manila. I am about to take my IELTS so that I can register in the NMC. My question is... will it be easy to find a university/hospital where I could have my ONP? I'm a little worried that when we move back to England this March, I would have a hard time looking for a centre or hospital for the ONP which means I wouldn't be able to work as a nurse in UK... please shed some light on this. Thank you so much! :)

ONP has to be done through an approved NMC facility and should be listed on the NMC website

You will have to meet NMC requirements and currently ADN is not accepted. Then you have to meet immigration requirements and unless you find a job on the shortage occupation list then that will be hard as employers have to go UK/EU before rest of the world. The UK is currently like the US with lots of people struggling to find work

Hi,I have just qualified as a nurse here in England and today I received my first NMC pack.I am not able to find a job as yet as a nurse,as the rest of my cohort,maybe 5 have jobs on a cohort of almost 200.

What puzzles me is....how is it possible to hire nurses from outside the UK,when the newly qualified here can't find a job?

I find it totally unfair.I do not mean to sound rude,but I have worked very hard in my three years of nursing,and for someone to come from overseas and take a job when we have nurse who are here and are unable to find jobs,it is wrong.It is very distressing to me.I have no job,bills to pay and two children to care for,as the majority of my cohort,we are all struggling to find jobs.

Please can someone show me the light at the end of this very long tunnel?

My post was not intended to offend anyone,but life is getting tougher for everyone.

quite simply they can't, the only jobs on the shortage list now are for those with post basic qualifications in Neonatal ICU or those with a specific perioperative care qualification.

the problem is and remains the fact that some of the work permits issued in the past were not time limited and that existing work permit holders have been able to transfer their permit to different organisations - this has gone on for sufficiently long for people to now have acquired British Citizenship and/or ILTR.

A further confounding factor has been the changes in primary care service delivery and some acute trust re-organisations which creates a scenario of lots of ring fenced jobs and secondments while structures settle down.

Like Zippy said, jobs from overseas are very few and far between nowadays. A lot of the posts here about people who are serious about moving over and taken steps to do so are married partners of a UKC, like I am.

We don't plan to go over until after we have children, but as his spouse, I think it's okay for me to get a job in the UK, just as it's okay for him to get a job as a teacher here in the USA. From a cost perspective, hiring an experienced RN (especially in a specialty like NICU) is a lot cheaper than training someone with less experience...of course, I actually have to be licensed and I'm not sure if the NMC will allow me to do so, which may make it all moot ;)

I really hope that you can get a job soon. Things are fairly desperate over here in the states for new grads. There are so many new grads who have been looking for a job for over a year and it's terrible because they were told by society that once you have a nursing degree, your career is set for whatever you'd like.

One of my friends in Birmingham just got a job after a few months recently--keep your chin up!

Hi all, I have just completed the ONP and sent a form to the NMC a few days ago. Anyone out there with experiences in regards to waiting time for registration fee form and the actual release of PIN? I am planning to travel and want to plan well coz I dont want to miss that final? letter from the NMC.

Hello, i would like to ask if the post experience required needs to be paid or my voluntary experience for 1 year in a hospital will count? Thank you

NMC only mentions 1year full time or part time equivalent. Doesn't mention paid or unpaid. Suggest you clarify with the NMC directly

An email that I receive from them stated it can be voluntary. If your not sure, email them. They will get back to you in a few days.
