There's an online registry for nursing assistants where you can put in their names and see if they are in good standing.
Is there something like this for nurses? At least one of the nurses I work with is kind of sketchy, so I'd like to check and see what the histories of these nurses are.

Yes, the Board of Nursing in their state.
Unsure why it's made so difficult to try to look up a nurse's license online.
WI is asking for license numbers but I don't know where to find those. Wisconsin DRL - Credential Lookup - Multiple Credential Search
I'm just curious because I've learned of CNAs that were written up, and I just want to know better what kind of people I'm working with.
Okay, I found the exact registry and license numbers, but the results given are fairly basic. I wonder if there are any better ways to search their licenses to know if they've broken any rules (neglect, stealing, etc).

First off, it is not your job to creep on other nurses because they seem shady at work. If they do something reportable or you have suspicion of something that can cause harm, you report it to your superior and be done with it.
Nurse sanctions and such are a matter of public record. When searching their license info, it will have a link to their BON "trial" and any punishments if they have ever had trouble with the board. Only seeing basic licensing info means they have not been turned into the board for anything that has caused action to be taken against them.
Leave it be. This is just weird.
Minor issues involving work-place mistakes, write-ups, etc. will not show up. Only serious, public safety issues that have been reported to the BON will. If you're nosy beyond that, you need to hire a private detective.

I have a right to know if they've done something serious. Since I can't search for smaller things then yeah I can report suspicious behavior like I usually do. Thanks you and Pangea about the BON stuff. Absolutely nothing weird about knowing your surroundings: the things I've seen you'd want to be aware, too.

No you don't have the right to know if they have done something serious. It's none of your business .
LOL. Tell the public WI Board of Nursing that. I mean, what are you even doing man? You're saying the public doesn't have the right to view public information when it comes to nursing licenses. If you're here just to argue for the sake of arguing AT LEAST have a point to argue on.
If they did something serious and it has been dealt with then that's that. No it is none of your business. If you are a prospective employer doing a background check, sure. A nosy coworker, no.

Well, if nothing comes up with the BON it means they HAVEN'T done anything serious.
I think what we are saying is that looking for things beyond what is on the BON is weird. If you work somewhere where you worry that much about who you work with and are having as many issues as you are, it's time for a new job.

You don't need a license number to look someone up in Wisconsin. You need their name and know if they are an LPN or an RN, that's it. Do you really think that your facility isn't keeping track of their nurses and its up to you to do?
