Recording Lectures

Published

Hi, This is my first semester in nursing school & I was thinking about recording the class lectures. My friend would like to buy me a recorder but I wasn't sure if I should let her purchase me one.

I would like input on recording lectures. What is the best recorder to buy? What brand interests you the most? Which recorder has the best quality & sound? How often do you listen to your lectures? Do you find that listening to your lectures repeatedly helps? Did your grades improve? Any info will help. I'm just trying to see if I should have one.

I have a Sony ICD-PX333 that has USB interface to download to the computer

Thanks everyone for your input. Keep adding to this post if need be.

Although I won't start nursing classes until January, I recorded all my A & P lectures. I have a cheap voice recorder that I got for $5 on craigslist. When I got home from each class, I listened again to the lectures and recopied my notes neatly into a separate notebook. I'm hoping I can use the same technique as a NS. It worked very well for me.

What app on your phone do you use to record lectures?

the " voice memos" app the phone comes pre installed with!

I honestly just used my iPhone 5 all semester and it worked fine. I didn't even set my phone on the instructor's desk. I set it face down on my desk (2nd row from the instructor) and it worked. It's not likely people are going to be talking (hopefully?) during lecture, so you shouldn't need anything fancy.

Do you think you'll have time to listen to them? My nursing courses last form 8 to 5 everyday. There's no way I'll find time to do this:( If your class is only 2 hr then you may, but it's time consuming. I hope you can find some other effective ways to study that fit your auditory style! Have you tried iTunes U?

Wow at people saying they are in everyday from 8-5. My class schedule is Monday 8-340 and Tuesday 8-3.

Those are my only two dats this upcoming semester.

Good day:

Even on days that I had that were from 6:30 AM to after 5:00 PM, I had the opportunity to listen and re-listen to lectures.

Thank you.

P.S. iTunes U is very good; but it's not the same as relistening to lectures from actual classes you are taking.

Aw, I believe in the Jesuit principle: It is easier to ask for forgiveness than to obtain permission. Don't make a big production out of it, but if it isn't specifically forbidden in your student handbook, just do it, quietly and subtly.

If anyone objects, say there's nothing in the student handbook to forbid it (if there isn't), and if then they make a rule, there's your answer.

I used a recorder but not to record lectures. I found that lectures are too long to make worth listening to. Rather, I used it to make audio flash cards for myself.

First check w the Profs. Our 1st semester Profs don't allow recording, but 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semesters do. I use my iPhone to record lectures. Works great and I always have it w me. Listening to the recordings helps esp on the difficult lectures ( fluid & electrolytes). Wishing you the best!

Used a Sony digital recorder - worked great - the software that came with it made it very easy to record lectures, then listen to them when driving. I also posted lecture recordings on the Blackboard course website to share, which helped my classmates.
