hi all, i will be starting class in september and was wondering if anyone uses a recording device to record lectures, etc. i was thinking this would help me study...the question is, what do you use..some have said they use an ipod...if that the case...which one? i did a search and there are so many different versions:confused:...i am challenged so to speak when it comes to electronics...i want something that is very clear and that perhaps i can download on to my laptop or listen to in my car when driving...all opinions are welcome and needed...thank you in advance

you may want to ask the professor first. Some do not allow recordings

My friend loved hers and used it for many classes, for myself, I could never find the time to listen to the lecture again and if I did find some time, I thought it was mind numbing to sit through a lecture again. I wouldn't spend a lot of money until you find out if you are allowed to and if it will even be of any benefit for you. For me it was a waste of money.

I bought one at Staples for around $40 dollars it was extremely helpful for me. As good of notes as I thought I was taking I always caught myself missing some information.

Most of my class uses recorders. Everything from the cheapest $20 recorder to my Echo Smartpen by LiveScribe. I definitely recommend getting some type of recorder and using it if your instructors allow.

thank you all...i guess i should find out if it is allowed...i never thought of that as i would assume that the instructors would want you to do whatever it takes to get the most out of their lectures

Loved mine for pre req's! However now in the program, so far anyways, we have not been allowed to record lectures :(

I got a smartpen at target when the new model came out and I LOVE it. I don't always use the paper, sometimes I just put it on the teacher's cart to record (the podcasts didn't always render but my recording was there just in case). IF you're allowed to record, I'd do it even if they do podcasts because of how often ours didn't render properly. Great to have a backup.

For sure go digital so you don't have to worry about turning a tape over.

I love my Echo smartpen. Best investment ever. Come home plug it in the computer and it downloads the recording and all your notes.

I love watching the writing come up on the pages, too.

Well shoot, I want a smartpen! but our teachers don't allow recording :-( I do have a digital recorder that i used in my prereq classes. So nice to just be able to plug it in to the computer!

One think I really LOVE about my smartpen is that it is a digital copy in case anything happens to my notebook. I can also read my notes on different devices. When I was attending college in the early 90's the city I was in flooded. Many cars were flooded including mine. My backpack was ruined and I lost all my notes for all my classes.

So, if it is something you really want get it. Even if you can't use the recording option for the lecture.

Ill have over an hour commute so I'm hoping to use my iPod touch to record lectures. Hopefully the mic will be sensitive enough. I think it could be really helpful getting the lectures to sink in and a good way to use my commute time. Plus I can plug it in to my car stero.
