  1. hello again, what if anything are you ladies doing to prep for class...besides the abbreviation sheet we recieved...are you reading anything else...im already so worked up and stressed and the closer it gets the more i stress....i am trying to get a grip ...just feel like i might miss something....
  2. well its getting closer and im in a panic...i always knew my math was weak, but i never realized just how bad..i have been going over one the books we got ...and its like a foreign lang. to me....i have been having people help me to refresh my memory but then the next day i go back to it and i draw a blank....PLEASE, anyone who is also weak in this area , what are you doing to "get it" i have great comprehension and recall with everything else...im soooo frustrated and starting to panic....
  3. hi manda i am in group A....i could have sworn the letter said 9 am first day and then we resume "normal" hours of 8am...i better read it again...i am nervous too...i am very weak in my math skills and although i have tried to get a grip on that, i have gotten no where...that is going to be a problem for me big time..also if you dont mind me asking...are you going to work while in school?? i lost my job a few weeks ago and now unemployment denied so i have to find some work, just have to do something around school scedule...ugh my nerves are shot...i am out of school a lonnnnng time so im sweating this but excited as well maria
  4. hi all, im sure everyone got their letter for start date...i know it says 900am start the first day then the following day 800am... i was under the impression it ran 7am to 300pm...am i wrong...is it now 8 to 4?
  5. i would like to add my opinion to this as i had to make a decision as to what would work for me...i am 47 years old...i am going the lpn route first as it was a quicker way to get into the field of my dreams...after im done i am going for RN...i dont have a day of college under my belt so the RN route for me would have been forever..i would have to do all my general studies and then be on a waiting list for years...by doing lpn first, i will get into the field of nursing quickly ( 10 months) then at that point i will take my time getting rn...so i wont mind the wait at that point..because i will be in the nursing field...alot of my rn friends of course discouraged my decision...but i have to do what works for my life...i can swing the full time school for ten months financially (not working or bring in income)...but anything longer would not be feasable at this time...so once im working as an lpn i can go for my rn on a slow part time scedule...but this is what works for me...you have to do what works for no because no one else walks in your shoes...make your choice and stand by it ...FOR YOU...its your life, your future...go for it in a way you can manage...it will be a better life for you and your son in the end...GOOD LUCK TO YOU IN WHATEVER PATH YOU CHOOSE
  6. thank you all...i guess i should find out if it is allowed...i never thought of that as i would assume that the instructors would want you to do whatever it takes to get the most out of their lectures
  7. thank you all for your input..hard decision on which way to go:uhoh3:
  8. hi all, i will be starting class in september and was wondering if anyone uses a recording device to record lectures, etc. i was thinking this would help me study...the question is, what do you use..some have said they use an ipod...if that the case...which one? i did a search and there are so many different versions:confused:...i am challenged so to speak when it comes to electronics...i want something that is very clear and that perhaps i can download on to my laptop or listen to in my car when driving...all opinions are welcome and needed...thank you in advance
  9. hi all, i was wondering if anyone on here knows anything about lincoln techs scedule options (edison nj) ..i heard that they have part time evening i think tues and thursday and clinicals every other weekend...but before i call (dont want to get the hard sell right now) i was wondering if anyone knew of other options for that school...thank you
  10. hello everyone...i am so grateful to all the responses i got...i appreciate that no one was offended by the personal questions...as far as the rent goes...unfortunatley for me im locked into a lease for almost another year...i have a two year lease ...im such an idiot....one of you mentioned student loans to keep a roof over my head...im wondering if i could do that since its not a campus type situation but a local vocational school...i wouldnt mind the payments after i graduate...thats would be a great option for me...i am pretty confident i am going to get a decent amount thru grants...and i didnt even think of the loans...this will work when im actually in school....as far as now though i guess i better get a roommate...i could give them the bedroom and i could stay on the sofa...jeez i just feel so foolish to put myself in this position...you would think at my age i would know better..i just really had no idea that for all the work involved in hha/cna work that the wages would be so low:crying2: i was just so excited about finally being able to get the career change going that i have wanted to do for 20 years...anyway, thanks for listening to my rambling...this forum has become such an important place to me..everyone is so helpful
  11. i know this may sound insane...but my question is this...how do people who are cna's or hha's survive financially...i went from a 20 dollar an hour job and gave it up to do chha work as i am going to nursing school in september...i guess i forgot to look into one important part...pay rate...i absolutley love what im doing now and i think it will be a big help but i am going to be kicked out of my home if i dont pay the bills...i have tried to look into assistance but where i live (ocean county)...they are not taking applications...i really wish i knew how to make things work...im sure it will be even harder when im going to school...my rent is 1200 a month..not trying to get personal...i am seriously at a loss here....i cant go back to my other job now as it is too late....feeling like i screwed up my life right now:eek:
  12. hi again and thank you...im going to speak to the school to get exact details for my situation....eally, this forum has been such a great place..i thank you all for taking time out of your day to help maria;)
  13. hello and thank you for that detailed response...the disbursment dates of course are very important as the bill collectors dont want to hear "oh ill pay you in 4 months when i get my check"...i didnt know thats how it worked so i appreciate the info...i thought you got all the money in the beginning to use as you needed....this may change a lot of my plans
  14. ok thank you...my school is almost 10 grand so im thinking i may have to take out loans too...really dont know what to expect as far as grants go
  15. hi all, i will be starting lpn in september 2011...i have a question to those of you who are students right now or have recently finished..i am attending a vocational school in nj...i am hearing what a great program it is and it is also EXTREMELY TOUGH.....lots and lots of studying......which is what i expect..HOWEVER..since students really shouldnt work full time hours (this is what im hearing) since the program is so intense...is it possible to use student loans for living expenses? is that allowed? this way students dont have to stress over bills on top of studies..... i am new to the whole financial aid thing...i have been out of school for a long time...i am 47 years old....so i dont know how it works......anyone who has any opinions/facts about this, i would appreciate your input.... THANNKS!!
