Record for most babies

...I mean by one mother! How many of you have worked in L/D long enough to have frequent fliers and how many babies have they had?! Same dad, different dads? Tell you stories!

I'm also fascinated by multiples!

I'll probably ruffle some feathers here, but we rarely see many "good families" with alot of kids. My state has alot of welfare Moms who keep having kids for the money & food stamps. I've seen many times how the kids are neglected & it wasn't very long ago that a 22 year old boyfriend of the Mom (unwed with 3 kids by different fathers) of a 22 month old baby was sentenced to jail because he shook the baby so violently that she died. I'm all for people having as many kids as they want as long as they are the ones providing the support. I get so tired of supporting other peoples kids who usually follow the same pattern as the Mom & start having kids in their early teens. Sorry if I upset anyone .

I totally agree with you. Some states must pay alot of money to women that have alot of kids. Here,it's just $24 a month for each additional child. It's $60 a month for the first child.

Growing up in the 60's in my neighborhood, it was quite usual for there to be 6-8 children in a three bedroom house. Went to LPN school with a women who had 21 kids with husband ---another 3 bedroom home where they turned the basement into bedrooms. All kids well loved and and liked by community.

I think the most I've seen has been a G13P11.

But I have seen women whose pregnancies have been too numerous for our software to handle. Our computer systems see it as an error. We had a woman who'd had 26 pregnancies...and was having her 4 child.

I've always wondered how one would keep up with all those ABs. And they were indeed TABs.

I work in a small rural hospital, and we see a great deal of welfare Moms too. I feel guilty about the way they make me feel. I will never be able to have children because of medical issues (both mine and my husbands). Then I see a 14 year old girl waddling down the hallway, pregnant with twins and a kid in a stroller, surrounded by other teen girls either pregnant or carrying kids. Boyfriend is in jail for meth. Nobody in this party speaks english. I always considered myself a very open accepting and non judgemental person. But since I started working as a nurse and see so many of my patients that are here for the drugs and the room service... and it's all on the tax payers dime... then I see how much of my paycheck is lost to taxes... it's difficult sometimes for me to keep being open.

I don't let it effect my work or the care I give my patients. In fact, my ablity to keep open is one of the reason that most of the psych issue patients get assigned to me. :-)

About a month ago I was taking care of a 13 year old girl who had just experienced her second miscarriage. In the ER her mom was very concerned and wanted to know how long her daughter would have to wait before she could start having sex again.

I see so many bad examples, and so few good ones. I'm also an only child, so I didn't have the benefit of siblings to temper my views on high birth numbers.

There are so many unwanted, unloved, uncared for children in this world. It makes me sad to see more coming in. Please understand, I also know people and have cared for patients that had lots of children. Beautiful, well behaved, joyfull, cared for children. It's just my personal issues that I'm working on right now.

My great-grandfather had 24 children. His first wife died after having 12. His second wife must have been quite a woman to take on the first 12 and then have 12 more together!

Must have been cheaper by the dozen back then. :chuckle

Hi,

I don't know the exact money they get per child but I feel sure that it's more than that. The thing that upsets me the most is that the kids are often abused or neglected. When my kids were small my hubby & I used to read to them alot, especially at bedtime. When my daughter was about 10 years old there was a comercial on TV about the importance of reading to your kids. Brooke didn't understand the message because she assumed all parents read to their children when they are small. She thought I was kidding her when I said some parents never read stories to their kids. :)

TAB refers to the euphemistic term, "Therapeutic Abortion" (induced ab).

A few months ago, we had something like a G18P15 being induced for- get this- maternal exhaustion. Well, no kidding. :chuckle
