Recent NCLEX-RN test takers

hi, i failed my first attempt at the nclex with 75 questions. i had taken the kaplan review that was required for graduation. i was able to take it a second time as part of their passing guarantee. at the class, the instructor said that the tests seem to change every couple of months. here is my question...

i would be interested in hearing from people that have taken the nclex-rn in the past two-three weeks to hear about what types of questions they got. for example, i am seeing in recent posts that people are getting many more math calcs in the past couple of weeks than they were getting a couple of months ago. i also have noticed that it appears that the number of sata's is dropping too compared to two months ago. i am just curious since i test in a week what others' experiences with the types and numbers of questions and catagories they are getting. i'm desparate to pass and scared to death of failing a second time. i'd love to hear what the test has been like for people the past two-three weeks.

thank you!!!

You just can not predict this as everyone will have different experiences on what sort/type of question they will get

Would suggest practice as many questions as you can and understand the rationales

I'm more curious than anything else. I do realize that everyone's test experience will differ but I was wondering if people were in general seeing more med calcs and less SATA's than a couple of months ago.

I haven't taken my NCLEX yet. I take it in 2 days and I've been using Kaplan. How did you use Kaplan before? Did you do all the questions?

I took it yesterday. Got 75Q, 9 Sata, 3 med calc, about 7 meds (some of the meds Qs were in SATA format), 2-3 peds, 1 OB, quite a few inf. control and a ton of priority. All my calculations involved either mcg or miliunits. I dont think I had any delegation, no ortho either, 1 weird disease (I cant even rememver the name).

How did ur test look like when u took it??

As I said, I failed with 75 questions in the first week of July. I had 4-5 med calculations, teaching, priority, some infection control and ZERO SATA's that at the time seemed like a sure fail because others on the board were getting between 10 and up to 25 or so SATA's and no calculations or 1-2. That is why I was asking and wondering if they are doing less SATA now and more calculations. It's just my own curiosity and trying every way I can think of to prepare as best as I can. I am studying all the material and not assuming there will be more of one than the other, I just wondered if what my Kaplan instructor said was factual by others experiences.

Good luck to you!!! Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I really dont know if it means anything, but u r right, it does look like now people get less SATA than a few weeks ago.

Good luck to you, let us know how it goes!!!

Sorry I missed this post, sparkplnty. Interspersed in with the 6 SATAs & 4 or 5 math questions I got, were prioritization questions (who to assess first) & what seemed to me like way too many med questions. A lot of the med questions were also priority questions (what should the nurse's priority assessment be if pt. is taking such & such a med), & it also seemed to me that most of the meds were totally obscure to me.

When I walked out, I was positive I had tanked, so I decided that if I was going to have to do this again, I was going to spend a lot of time on the pharmacology sections, & see if I could discern a pattern to what they were looking for. I had also read (in this forum) of a nclex prep book that specialized in priority questions, & I was going to look for that as well.

Anyway, good luck, & I'll think good thoughts for you.

... I also recall getting a couple of G&D questions, however, I considered those the sacrificial lamb, as there was no way I could remember all the G&D milestones with everything else i was trying to study.Again, I wish you good luck.

Thanks Matt, that is also one of the things the Kaplan instructor mentioned was that the last couple of weeks or so, what they have been hearing from students is that there also were more meds than there were a couple of months ago although I know that the meds they have on NCLEX are usually ones we have never heard of or studied. Sometimes personally I find it helpful to look at the brand name because there can be a clue in the name itself as to what it is used for...unfortunately brain is mush from studying and can't think of one off hand :)

You can never tell. My best advice is answer as many questions as you can & the most important of all is to have faith in the Lord. I wouldn't have done it without His help. I was doing 200q's/day & I made sure to read the rationale whether I got the answer right or wrong. I used the NCLEX-3500. Best thing about it is it's free. God bless, you will pass this test. Believed me, If I can pass this you can too.

i think there's really no way to predict some sort of pattern... but if it helps you, i took it last week and i got a lot of priority questions (which one u should see first), delegation questions (which would u assign to a peds nurse floating to medsurg), some pharm (BP meds, Coumadin, etc), and a lot of hepatitis B questions. my friend got a lot of pharm questions and he took the test the day i took it. my other friend got a lot of neuro/diabetes questions with a bunch of SATA. so i think it really depends on your performance since the computer is choosing which questions to throw at you based on your answers

im sorry u failed the first try, but i wish you all the luck on your second try!!
