Received Failed results from NCLEX-RN today...need advice.

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I just received my letter in the mail from the BON and to no surprise, I did not pass. What really bothered me was how bad I did on every content area, here's what it stated:

Management of Care (13-19% of the test): BELOW THE PASSING STANDARD

Health Promotion & Maintenance (6-12% of the test): BELOW THE PASSING STANDARD

Psychosocial Integrity(6-12% of the test): NEAR THE PASSING STANDARD

Reduction of Risk Potential (13-19% of the test): NEAR THE PASSING STANDARD

Safety & Infection Control (8-14% of the test): NEAR THE PASSING STANDARD

Basic Care & Comfort (6-12% of the test): NEAR THE PASSING STANDARD

Physiological Adaptation (11-17% of the test): NEAR THE PASSING STANDARD

Pharmacological & Parenteral Therapies (13-19% of the test): NEAR THE PASSING STANDARD

*Also Stated from the letter: "To pass the NCLEX, a candidate must perform ABOVE the passing standard. Candidates fail if they only meet the passing standard or are below it. Please note that NEAR THE PASSING STANDARD does not imply a satisfactory performance on the content area.

To sum this up, I pretty much BOMBED THE TEST. I wasn't even close to passing & not one content area did I receive an "ABOVE THE PASSING STANDARD" my God, am I dumb or what.

I am seeking help from those who have had any experiences with these unfortunate results. I don't know what to do, what & how to study, I don't even know where to start...but it seems like I have to study even harder and go over EVERYTHING AGAIN. Geez, this is hopeless....I really can't believe this is happening. This is much to embarassing, I probably got the worst nclex results known to man.

Anyone, please I need help on what to do now...one thing is for sure, I dont need a break, I took like 4 weeks off doing absolutely nothing before I received my results.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. God Bless.

I know it's a bummer. Believe it or not my result was worse than yours. I took the RN Nclex for the 2nd time today. My first experience was I got the full amount of questions and my printout was terrible. I am not sure if it helped but I enrolled in the Kaplan online course. It has videos and comes with a book as well as q bank questions. I know I have dedicated as much time as possible to studying. Today I had 75 questions but they were not what I expected. I am not sure how I did.... I am praying that I passed. I'll let you know if my strategy worked. I should find out my results on Wed.

i am far from taking the NCLEX i just applied to schools, but what does it mean when some of yall say i passed at 110 questions or i passed at 75. are there different amount of questions on some tests, or if you pass so many then you pass the entire thing. can somebody clarify.

I failed my boards the first time and was soo embarrased that the second time around which was this past Friday I refused to tell anyone that I was taking them. I am a very poor test taker. I studied not only for the test this go round, but I studied how to take a test. Take a deep breath and tell yourself that you can do it. You made it this far give yourself more credit take a deep breath and jump back in.

I am a new grad and one of the preceptors on my unit told me she took NCLEX 5 times before passing. She has been a RN for 5+ years now, works as charge nurse sometimes, and precepts new grads. You do not have to pass NCLEX on the first try to be a great nurse! Some people do not test well, others have so much test anxiety that it causes them to forget everything they know. Relax and take a study break. There is such a think as studying too much. You passed nursing school, you will be able to pass NCLEX.

thank you! it uplifts my spirit. that was what my dad told me a while ago which is to take some break..

and it is what i am doing right now! :yeah:

I totally understand your pain. I graduated last June and still have not passed, I have taken it 3x now. Talk about feeling stupid..I already have a job and have to keep calling my manager and telling her I still didn't pass. God love her she states "I know you have what it takes to be a nurse and it's just a test". However, it is still embarassing to other nurses on the floor. Advise that I would give to a new grad is not to get a job until after you pass the NCLEX. I have every book that you could possibly imagine I probably have 10,000 questions in them all together, I have the Kaplan book, and I did the 5 week course in ncbsn. The first time I failed I had 265 questions all the areas except 3 were above the passing standard, the second time I had 127 questions and I was below and near on that feedback, this last time I had 227 questions and my feedback levels all were ''near the passing standard". I don't know what to do either, I am so hopeless and aggravated. I truly don't know if I will ever pass this. The thing is that I don't feel nervous or anxiety during the test. However, I read the question twice and the answers about 4x. I read stories where people have graduated two years prior and still haven't passed that is awful. I'm just so confused as to what, when, and how to study at this point.

determinegal1 I tried to pm you and it wouldn't let me.....thank you so much for your reply. Hopefully you see this message and reply.

You can't send a pm until you have over 15 posts to your name :)

I felt this same way when I got this kind of letter last year..I was crying, and stopted believing in myself. I will take exam again in few months...I am not rushing. I took Kaplan course (expensive but they teach you reading "between the lines"), bought Saunders 4th edition (this book, in details explain you what's going on with the content).I am relying now only on that.I tried other books before-no way, didnt help...So I am stick to that.

Suzanne plan in no longer available. You have to cry and study..and I believe you will make it!

Which Kaplan are you talking about, is it a book or disc, cause I have both

I am talking about Kaplan class. Face to face with instructor...books and cd comes after it when you want practice questions. find Kaplan on google and find your location.
