Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2010

Published

I was hoping to continue a great thread that I read last year, Ready to Apply CT Colleges 2009. It was a bunch of people looking to get into the CT Community Colleges nursing program for 2009-2010 academic year! They really banded together and answered questions for each other.

I was hoping to start the same thing for this year.

So, applications for the 2011-2012 year come out in just over a month. November 1st!!!

What has everyone been doing to prepare for the application process. What classes are you currently taking? Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? What was your score? What school is your 1st choice?

Speak up people!

If there is a problem they will let you know trust me. I didn't find out until late April or May that I got waitlisted and then found out in July I got in for Jan.

Specializes in New Critical care NP, Critical care, Med-surg, LTC.

In January I received a letter that my application was incomplete, so I called Three Rivers and spoke with someone there. I was told that to date the number of applicants was higher than it was at the same time last year. The e-mail that went out didn't take into account any courses taken outside of the community colleges so I initially freaked out when I saw the list of requirements that I was missing. After speaking with someone I realized that my application should be fine, but like you, I do worry that someone small could have tripped me up. I believe that if you're contacted in March because of an incomplete application, you may have a chance to fix things, but it could mean the application isn't accepted. Guess we just wait and see. Good luck.

LBMmommy, thats interesting. So, they listed courses taken at other institutions as missing for you? Could it be because your other transcripts weren't recieved yet? I took most (except life Span dev) at other schools, I was so afraid that they wouldn't get to the right spot- that I had the schools ship to my house, and I included the sealed transcripts with my application.

Its sort of scary to think there are MORE applicants than this time last year. YIKES!!!

I wish I knew someone at school that could let me know about the process, it is daunting to just wait, and wait.

If anyone is in the program now, do you have any good tips on supplies or things you "wish you had/ or wish you knew you would have to get" items... I need soemthing to do while I wait....

All ya need is a good $70 scope(I have a Ultrascope which is better then my Lippmans UltraII), a digital recorder from Walmart for $40(mine has a USB attached which I download to my computer and then to my iPod to listen at the gym or driving) and either a big book bag or like some in class, a bag on wheels to save your back. the rest is obvious pens,pencils.....

OK, whats your advice on the scope... did you get the teaching scope or a typically adult scope? What have most people in class purchased? I was hoping to go into pediatrics when school is completed- but I can always buy a pediatric scope later.

Either an Ultrascope (which I use to hear thru shirts in a moving ambulance) or I believe Littmanns still makes the Classic II which is what I think most people have. No body really spent more then $70. It really comes down to the quality of the tubing. Stay away from the double tubing for now. Eventhough there is a metal seperator they still rub together and cause ambient sound. When you get into Peds then worry about it, for now you're just a Student Nurse. Like I said in another thread, the only difference between a $40 scope and a $100 scope is when its lost or walks off, you're out $100!

The wait is over for me. I just got my acceptance letter today to Bridgeport!!! I'm so excited and relieved all at the same time!!! I can finally sit back and relax now. :D I'm definitely going to accept this wonderful opportunity. If I actually end up getting accepted at NVCC as well, at least it will open up a spot for someone on the waitlist!

Best of luck to the rest of you still waiting to hear! :heartbeat

Nice job, Ladybug! It must be such a relief to know. WAY TO GO!

Thanks so much! Definitely such a huge relief. I felt myself deflate as soon as I received the good news. If I had to wait till late March/April I think I would go out of my mind, haha! You definitely have to have quite a bit of patience when dealing with the CC's. Best of luck to all of you! :heartbeat:heartbeat

Some advise on the steth... I'd look into the Littmann Cardiology III since you are interested in pediatrics. It is one of the best steth's you can buy that has a side dedicated for peds. Unfortunately, it is pretty costly at around $150, but if you're looking for a great steth that you plan to use throughout your career, I would definitely recommend it. It isn't necessary though for nursing school, so don't go thinking that you have to purchase it. Due to cost, the classic II is definitely a good pick and is much more common among students. Most would probably recommend the classic, but if you go with the Cardio III, just make sure to gaurd it with your life during clinicals. From what I've heard, many students, and even doctors, will be anxious to borrow it since the sound quality is far superior. Just thought I'd throw some options out there for you. :)

Congradulations....your hard work is finally visible:anpom:
