Hello, I think we all notice how many filipinos are working here in the US. May I ask what the pay is in the philippines. I heard it was like 500 pesos a day. I understand why so many want to come over here.

Thank you.

The income of nurses here in the Philippines is very low,its like in minimum. You can't buy yourself a house not even a lot. You work hard in the Hospital yet receive a small amount of reward. If only we have high salary here, I would never leave our country,my country the beautiful Philippines.I hope soon that hospital administrators and the government would increase our salary.I think if I receive high salary, even if Im stressed I will file overtime and work harder.

USA, a RN (New Hire) With only 2 year Associate Degree in Nursing makes on average about 800 to 900 peso per hour.

Nurses in the US also used to be paid very low salaries (not as low as you are being paid in the Philippines, but very low for the US), but nurses got together and worked hard to change that (and, over time, our efforts produced results). What are nurses in the Philippines doing to improve their situation?

Honestly, I don't understand why until now we Filipino nurses have not worked hard enough to demand a decent pay. We should do something. I want to do something.

Not much, because that the way they are raised, And I don't say this in a bad way. It just the culture in Philippines.

They are taught not to question authority figures, it would be disrespectful and they would loose face.

I have spent a couple months in PI, and I am still don't understand why the PI people take so much from others, and don't complain.

Leave the Philippines. It is sad but I cannot blame them.

Blame our rotten government. This is also one of the big factor why nurses look for greener pasteur outside the Phil. If only our government allotted a big budget for healthcare system in our country, then we might not hear that a lot of us would want to go abroad just to sustain the needs of our family back here. With 5kPhp as starting salary of a nurse, (not to mention the volunteer nurse) how would u budget this money especially if parents are sick, tuition fees of siblings, and high-priced commodities?? What a shame to our government!

Who wants to stay in the Philippines to work as a nurse? With salaries so low for RN's in the Philippines it is no wonder most Filipino nurses leave for overseas jobs the first opportunity that comes along. A month salary for an RN in the Philippines is equivalent for half a day salary for a U.S.-based RN. Sad but true.

Any idea back on your mind as to the appropriate action to do with regards to this problem? Rally along hospital premises? Talk to BON? Talk to congressmen who can help us to raise a bill for an increase wage for every healthcare workers, or just go with the flow as to this issue was brought about many years ago, but until now there were no legal actions made? If only there is someone out there--a nurse--who is brave enough to fight for our rights as a nurse...then we can change the status quo we are in.

But this is the part I don't understand. If conditions were that bad in my country, we wouldn't put up with it and we would change the government. What is being done about the lousy conditions in the PI other than everyone who possibly can, leaving? Do people even think or talk about that? Esp. now that nurses don't have as many options for other places to go, with new immigration restrictions in place in some of the most "popular" other countries ... What are you doing to improve your situation besides hoping and praying that some other country will "rescue" you by letting you come live and work there?
